Huskies’ Win Brings Deals

photoThe UCONN men’s and women’s teams both won NCAA basketball championship titles - and that means Husky fans are getting more than bragging rights today.

Area businesses are showing  their team spirit with special deals.

To celebrate the double win, Connecticut Moe’s Southwest Grills are offering burritos, regularly as much as $8, for just $1.  Dave Vorchheimer, manager of the West Hartford Moe’s, says people started lining up a half-hour before the store opened at 11 a.m.

Since then hundreds of fans have waited as long as 45 minute in line to get their burrito-for-a-buck.

“The same scene is playing out at other Moe’s locations,” says Vorchheimer. “We’re letting people in in groups of 10 to 15 to try to keep the line moving. I think it’s going to keep going like this until 9 p.m. when we close.”

Amanda Hathaway and Jonathan Cohen, interns at a West Hartford promotions company, heard about the deal on social media and spent their lunch hour waiting in line to score the offer.

The bargain, they said, was worth the wait.

“Hell yeah,” says Hathaway. “Great deal.”

“We love the Huskies,” says Cohen. “And we love the price.”
