Quvenzhane Wallis wore Poochie on the red carpet Sunday night, and no, that’s not a typo.

The 9-year-old, who received a Best Actress nomination for her role in “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” carried a blinged-out, stuffed Yorkie purse made by Poochie & Co, a New York accessories company known for its line of cute-as-a-puppy pocketbooks.

The bejeweled, tiara-ed and tutu-ed doggie bag was a custom-made model, designed specifically for Wallis, says company representative Leslie Palmer.

“We made two bags for Quvenzhane’s consideration, a Scottie and a cocker spaniel” says Palmer. “We didn’t know until the Oscars aired which one she’d use.”

Wallis, a fan of the line for several years, has 50 or more of the bags in her collection, and often shows up at media events sporting one of her signature accessories. The exposure spiked sales.

The red carpet appearance increased the demand even more.

“We were already seeing double-digit growth as a result of the publicity,” says Palmer. “But now, we’re sold out until May.”

Bags, which retail anywhere from $12 to $15, are sold at Sear’s, Kmart, Marshalls, Charming Charlie’s, Claire’s and Burlington. The line, favored by 3 to 12 year-old fashionistas, includes most breeds, (no Rottweilers, pit bulls or German Shepards). Colors and trims change regularly.

Poochie & Co. will have an Oscar version, priced from $25 to $30, in stores in June.

Meanwhile, if you spot a Poochie, you might want to grab it.

“Some of our bags showed up on eBay this morning for as much as $300,” says Plamer.
