Essex, Ivoryton and Centerbrook hold townwide tag sales on Saturday and many merchants will be holding sales as well. Most sales run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Information: essexct.com.

Niantic Main Street hosts the annual Bargains by the Bay tent and sidewalk sale Friday, Saturday and Sunday. During the event, downtown merchants in the seaside town offer deals on antiques, apparel, books and more.

Through Aug. 31, K-12 teachers, administrators, and Board of Education members can visit the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford free of charge. Educator ID required.

The Friends of the Saxton B. Little Free Library in Columbia hold a used book sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Books are priced from 25 cents to $3 and on Sunday, books are half-price. Connecticut’s Tax Free Week runs from Sunday, Aug. 18 through Saturday, Aug. 24. During that time, you won’t pay sales tax on most individual clothing or footwear items priced less than $300.
