New HomeGoods Opens Sunday In Simsbury

TJX Companies, Inc. opens its newest HomeGoods on Sunday, March 3 in Simsbury. The 23,500-square-foot store, in the Simsbury Commons shopping plaza, will feature more than 35,000 pieces of home fashions at savings of 20 to 60 percent below retail prices, according to company publicist Phil Tracey.

Merchandise includes a changing mix of furniture, rugs, wall art, table wares, bedding, kitchen and and bath linens, table wares, seasonal items.

“Trucks come in every day, so items in the store continuously update,” says Tracey. “Our buyers travel the globe, so many of our things are one of a kind.”

The store also features gourmet foods, a children’s department, pet products and lighting and outdoor living areas.  Since plans for the store opening were announced last spring, area bargain hunters have been looking forward to its opening.

“I thinks it’s great that we’re going to have a HomeGoods in this location,” says Kimberly Kilduff, who plans to be at the store with a friend early Sunday morning. “The stores are good places to browse and I always end up finding pillows or art or a rug or something.”

A Bed, Bath & Beyond is in the same shopping center, but Kilduff doesn’t think the two will compete.

“People tend to go to Bed, Bath & Beyond for specifics, like a coffee maker or shower curtain,” she says. “I go to HomeGoods even when I don’t need anything, just to see what they have. It’s a fun retail destination, like Target.”

When fully staffed, the store will employ 60 full and part-time workers. Tracey said job applications are still being accepting.

TJX Companies, Inc., which also operates T.J. Maxx and Marshalls stores, has 10 other Connecticut HomeGoods locations, including those in Vernon and Wethersfield.

The Simsbury Home Goods, 500 Bushey Hill Road, (in the former Border’s Books & Music space), will be open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Special grand opening hours on Sunday are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Information: 860-658-4062 or www.homegoods.com.
