If you’re looking for something to do this weekend of the local rock persuasion, the Indiefest at Charter Oak Cultural Center in Hartford should be toward the top of your list.

The free all day show (with an emphasis on the ‘free’) features mostly local bands in two categories, with an acoustic cluster plays from 2pm to 6pm, and electrified bands start plugging in at 7pm and going until midnight.

Acts include Rum Glass Serenade, Up Up We Go!, Ovlov, and Kevin MF King.  New London’s Suicide Dolls make an appearance, as do Radical Dads, a Brooklyn band with an asymmetrical rock sound that J Mascus would be into if he hung out in Providence. Farewood, who have a sound akin to space dreams through a prism of dark forest, also perform. The Wallingford based group just released their first album in 6 years.

Break out your favorite pair of Chucks, acid washed jeans, and check out the event listing on Facebook for a full lineup and more information.

The event includes a “Really Really Free Market,” where guests and “vendors” are asked to bring useful things to give away to others for free (though if no one wants it, the item is still yours). Free food will be provided by Hartford Food Not Bombs.

Albums and merch from the bands are not included in the ‘free’ part, therefore it is recommended not to arrive completely empty handed.
