Is Norah Jones Playing Tonight’s Wild Rovers Tour In Hamden?

The Wild Rovers Tour with Cory Chisel is rumored to feature a special appearance by Norah Jones. (Handout)

* Update: unfortunately, Norah Jones did not perform Saturday night.

Tonight the Spaceland Ballroom is hosting the “Wild Rovers” Tour featuring Cory Chisel, The Candles, Invisibleman, and Adriel Denae. However it’s guesswork over the tour’s “Special Guests,” that’s drawing some buzz.

Speculation has it that none other than Norah Jones may make an appearance tonight in Hamden.

There’s more than a few signs pointing to this- Chisel spent months touring with Jones, and Josh Lattanzi of The Candles also plays bass in her backing band.

Not only that, but the Grammy award winner popped up at several previous Wild Rovers Tour dates (see here for St. Louis, MO, here for Appleton, WI, and here for St. Paul, MN). There’s similar rumors for the tour’s Hudson, NY stop on Sunday (click here).

Of course this is all speculation. A call to the show’s promoters yielded nothing but hedging and non-confirmations of potential guests.

The other problem is that the Spaceland Ballroom show is the first of three Northeast dates on this leg of tour. Jones could very well be in another part of the country by now.

Equally exciting the rumor train is the potential that Rosanne Cash, daughter to the late country legend Johnny Cash, could perform. Chisel played a sold-out show with her Friday night at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City. Cash has several dates booked in the area, including one at the Palace Theatre in Stafford Springs on Dec. 13.

There’s only one way to find out about tonight’s guests.

Tickets to tonight’s show at Spaceland Ballroom are $15 at the door. The show is 21+, and doors open at 8 p.m.

Pixies Announce Tour Including Stop In New Haven, Release “Andro Queen” Video

by Categorized: Uncategorized Date:

Pixies have announced a 33 date North American tour that includes a stop at the Shubert Theater in New Haven.

The Northampton-based group is in the midst of a European tour, their first with Kim Shattuck taking over for original member Kim Deal on the bass. The North American tour picks up in the new year, with the Shubert Theater show on Jan. 22.

Tickets for the New Haven show go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. Prices are $55 for seats, or $65 for general admission. Fidlar provides opening support in New Haven, though other dates on tour also have Cults and Best Coast opening.

Frank Black and company also took this opportunity to release a video for Andro Queen, the lead track of the new EP1 release. The video is a substance-induced jaunt across the Golden Gate to a forest full of musical tigers. Black takes to his singing voice on this track, which is more low key than the angular melodies and screeches of the average Pixies song.
