Avery Wilson Bid Farewell To NBC’s “The Voice” Last Week
A week ago a sizeable chunk of Connecticut was plunged into darkness, and with utilities waterlogged or blown away, there were more important things to take care of. But fans of NBC’s The Voice may have returned to the show this week to notice that Hamden’s favorite son, and a show frontrunner, was missing.
Avery Wilson was eliminated last week in a battle round against Cody Belew, who sang Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”
The week before, Wilson soundly won his ‘battle’ (that’s Voice speak for a sing-off) against Chevonne. Talking about their performances, the judges made it clear that Chevonne took the prize for owning the stage.
“If anything i think Avery could take a few lessons off of you for this dynamic stage presence,” Aguilera told her. While Wilson advanced without a problem, perhaps their comments got in his head.
Wilson, who has his origins as a dancer, put his moves on display while singing Chris Brown’s “Yeah 3X.” While impressing the coaches, it seemed the work took away from his vocal chords.
“Avery, you can sing your ass off, and you can dance too,” said his coach CeeLo Green. “But ultimately the definitive factor about your performance is your voice”
After pausing for an overly dramatic and meditative moment, CeeLo cut Avery loose. Here’s the full clip:
Could this be the end for the Hamden teen? Most likely not. Based off his talent and the buzz created by his early songs, all bets are that we’ll see more of Avery Wilson.
It’s just that Connecticut will need to wait at least another season before having a Javier Colon repeat.

It was sad to watch Avery Wilson leave The Voice when he was eliminated. I’d hoped he would have what it took to make it to the finals. I wasn’t so sure about The Voice at first, then I gave it a shot and I got hooked pretty fast. I’ve enjoyed this show all season and I can’t wait to watch each new episode. I record my shows using my PrimeTime Anytime feature, and it will record all four major networks on one TV. I no longer have to pick and choose shows and I can play all them back within the next eight days. I thought this was a great feature once my coworker at DISH told me about it. I’ve been able to watch new shows I never knew about and I’ve started to enjoy. This keeps things simple and allows me to watch my recordings on any TV too.
why record? when like for instance.. Hulu, you can just watch it anytime you want?
and I also agree 100%.. it was hard to see Avery go… he was one of my favorites
