There was drama a-plenty Wednesday on “American Idol,” but none of it involved Connecticut native Gabi Carrubba. The 16-year-old North Haven High School student didn’t appear on the broadcast.

Symone Black did, though, and a moment of levity suddenly turned scary when the 16-year-old toppled off the stage after singing Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” Black looked unsteady as she answered judge Randy Jackson’s question about why she chose the song, then her knees buckled and she collapsed.

The episode ended as as her father, watching from further back in the theater, raced toward the stage and a member of the production staff called out, “Medic, please.”

Black’s condition was unclear, and Fox teased Thursday’s episode over the end credits when an announcer intoned, “Tomorrow night, find out what happens to Symone.”

Carrubba is expected to appear on Thursday’s show, which airs at 8 p.m. on FoxCT.

I pray that the young girl with the beautiful voice is OK. It was not funny nor something to make fun of. I am concern and hope she can finish in the rounds.

  2. Ian says:

I thought the ending of AI was awful. The girl was injured, out cold and the producers decide to exploit that moment by not telling us she was OK? Showing us her fall over and over during the show as a teaser is one thing. We should know right away that she’s OK.

  3. rubberbandlady says:

absurd premise, a cliffhanger??? come on Idol staff, you’re better than that.

  4. zingaro says:

    TONIGHT’S IDOL SHOW-in bad taste.

    unbelievable…
very bad taste. I am thinking that I will not watch the show tommorrow-in protest.
Of course the girl is OK but should IDOL cash in? I am shure they have compensated her for here ordeal-but to lead us on-as I said-in poor taste.

  5. Zoe says:

Symone, you’re my favorite this season I hope you get well soon :)

  6. Monica says:

Very poor taste to end the show with someone passed out, and the audience not knowing if she is okay.

  7. patty says:

Too bad American Idol had to use the little girl to get people to tune to tomorrow. Poor taste and makes the show look desperate. Why did AI spend all of that money to bring all of those kids out to LA just to send them home ? I am sure that they could have spent that money more wisely.

  8. Wow says:

Wow. This is ridiculous. They’re seriously going to wait for the next episode to let us know if she’s okay or not? That’s actually cruel, leaving fans of her to worry like that. Definitely unimpressed.

  9. cat says:

They cut it off, so I didn’t see the fall till I watched it on the EW site. I hope she’s OK. It’s just plain nasty that they’re making us wait til tomorrow to know if she’s OK.

  10. Cami says:

The people I know who watch Idol were really enjoying the quality of the judges: compassion, expertise, and the way that they handle themselves in every situation. It has been delightful. I am sure they didn’t have a say in the production of Wednesday or Miss Black’s would not of been used to pull people to the Thursday evening. People will watch to see if she is OK, but obviously the producer doesn’t always “get it right”. I believe that descision really hurt the murral and commoradity of the show. I would recommend you check with Jennifer, Randy, and Steven before you try something like that again. They have more heart for the show than was displayed this evening.

  11. Sarah says:

She looked so unsteady. I think she either had some kind of a siesure or was so nervous she passed out. Either way shes my favorite so far this season. I hope the poor thing is okay! I’ll have to wait until tomorrow night to find out ::rolls eyes::

  12. Sharon Jane says:

I think the producers displayed poor taste and judgement and should be ashamed of themselves for portraying this incident as it did to a family audience and then not say if this girl was ok. Did they forget that young children also are also their viewers and may be effected and lose sleep worried for her! It is just pure greed, and insensitivity. Probably describes their character accurately; non-impressive.

  13. BUZUZU says:

KEEPING ALL VIEWERS IN SUSPENSE OVER THE STATE OF HEALTH OF THE POOR LITTLE GIRL ? A WAY TO AROUSE VIEWERS INTEREST TO TUNE IN NEXT TIME ? MY ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS ARE SIMPLE : AMERICAN IDOL AND THEIR PRODUCERS ARE ALL CHEAP . MEAN AND DOWNRIGHT BASE . FOR WANT OF HOW BEST TO DESCRIBE THEM , I’LL BRAND THEM , CHEAPLETONS RATHER THAN SIMPLETONS .

  14. geraldine says:

PURE GREED. American Idol will do anything just to get ratings. What a shame. Wonder what the producers are going to do with the check from this.Buy more material things and make more shows like this.I can’t believe they portrayed the little girls health on television as if it is a joke.I hope she is well.

  15. rick James says:

Lol Fatality she shoulda did a backfilp LOL

  16. Mindy says:

My teenager has epilepsy, and Symone looked like she might have it, too as it looked like she was having a seizure. It might not be, but maybe she is epileptic and doesn’t know it yet herself? In any case, I thought it so rude and disgusting that some of our radio DJ’s were making fun of Symone today, espcially if there is even a chance that she has epilepsy or something else medically wrong. Tough enough for the kids who have it, but hearing the jokes from professional DJ’s whom they “idol” (pun intented) is truly insulting!

  17. Ruth ROGERS-WRIGHT says:

I hope Symone is ok. Pretty bad the show used her ill health as a teaser. Perhaps the producers are worried that the show’s talent is not interesting enough. One other thing -less sob stories and more singing.
