The finalists for the Hartford Advocate’s 2013 Connecticut Music Awards have been announced, along with the lineup for this year’s Grand Band Slam.
Fans voted for their favorite acts across 19 categories, including Best Indie Rock, Best R&B, Best Metal, and Best Blues.
Of note are the finalists for Best New Band, which was consolidated to Head With Wings, Jose Oyola & The Astronauts, Post-Modern Panic, Space Orphans, and Violent Mae. Best Overall Band nominees include 1974, Dead By Wednesday, Fight the Fear, Goodnight Blue Moon, and Little Ugly.

Winners will be announced at the second annual Connecticut Music Awards on Sept. 17 at The Bushnell in Hartford.
The Advocate’s Grand Band Slam follows up the awards that weekend, with many of the finalists performing at a myriad of venues around the state.
Shows will take place at The Telegraph and Oasis Pub in New London on Sept. 19; Cafe Nine, Anna Liffey’s and Stella Blues in New Haven on Sept. 20; and 7 different venues in Hartford on Saturday, Sept. 21.

To top things off, the city of Hartford happens to host their second annual Envisionfest on Sept. 21. The organization announced Friday that They Might Be Giants will headline the event with a free concert in Bushnell Park.
