Stark Raving Lulu are having a CD Release show at Cafe nine July 7.

Stark Raving Lulu want to take you on a carnival ride this weekend in celebration of their new record, “Welcome To The Fun-O-Sphere!”

The rocker’s first full length is like a tilt a whirl through sassy 60′s garage rock and a popcorn protopunk ring toss to the Ramones.

From the album opener based on listening to pop girl badasses The Shangri-Las, through ‘Because I Said So’ which channels a New York Dolls song of similar name, the Lulu gals wear their homages on their sleeves.

Of course it would be impossible to forget what year it is, and neither do the Lulus with modern references like “I saw it on MySpace / you said I was a basket case” on their ‘screw you’ anthem Big Man, and a song dedicated to very personal dreams of the actor Mickey Rourke (though he’s been around for a while).

The Lulus (Lala, Low End, Bella, and Boom Boom) play Cafe Nine in New Haven on Saturday, July 7  with The Peacock Flounders and The Sawtelles. In September they play the Dry Dock Music Festival in Wallingford.

Welcome To The Fun-O-Sphere! is available on CD Baby and on iTunes.
