Up Or On The Rocks, a regular haunt for many local bands, will be closing its doors after a second fatal shooting took place just after closing time.
Police told the Courant that Miguel Delgado, 21, of East Hartford, was shot in the chest. The incident started as a fight inside the club that spilled out into the streets when the club began to close.
Up Or On The Rocks has stages both upstairs and downstairs at the club, and hosts rock and funk shows in both rooms. Local bands like Echo & Drake, Little Ugly, Joey Batts and Them, and Mandrake Mechanism have frequented the club, and Hartford rock station WCCC has hosted acoustic events there featuring the likes of Eve 6, Hurt, and Hinder.
Thursday night’s incident took place during an 18+ dance night. An event on Facebook advertised the club as “Hartford’s only 18+ night club every weekend.”
According to the Courant, owners of the club spoke with city officials including Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra, and agreed to close the club at least until new security plans were put in place. There was no clear timetable on how long that would take.
Gun violence is not common in downtown Hartford, however this was the second shooting in downtown this month. The first took place Aug. 4. Police located the suspect at Disney World earlier this week, and he was and taken into custody.
