Gathering of the Vibes have released their first wave lineup announcement, and it’s shaping up pretty well.

This year the festival in Bridgeport is going to feature Black Crowes, Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Roots, John Butler Trio, and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.

It wouldn’t be Vibes without a Grateful Dead connection, and this year has Phil Lesh & Friends performing. Lesh’s friends include keyboardist John Medeski, drummer Joe Russo, and John Kadlecik of Dark Star Orchestra. The lineup also includes Meters, Fishbone, Ryan Montbleau Band, Deep Banana Blackout, and Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real.

Nights will be punctuated by DJ sets by Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation, and the one and only James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem.

More acts will be announced in coming weeks.

“Our 2013 lineup is a result of sorting through thousands of comments and surveys responses; we hope to deliver an experience that keeps our core fans happy while remaining diverse and current,” said Ken Hays, festival founder, in a statement released along with the lineup. “It’s a model and approach that works for us.”

The Gathering of the Vibes has been at Seaside Park in Bridgeport since 2007. The festival recently signed a new contract that will keep it in the Park City for another 5 years.

Early Bird tickets to the festival have sold out, though “Way Advance tickets” are still available. For more info go to

On a side note, the names of ticket purchasing levels are getting wackier and wackier.

So between the psych jams the dj’s and the funk,  what’s it going to be this year? Dancing shoes or hula hoops? Both?
