On Monday, the Oklahoma Supreme Court unanimously overturned a state law that would have given fetuses “personhood” status. The Court said:
a proposed amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution defining a fertilized human egg as a person violates a 1992 U.S. Supreme Court decision [...]
This after Miss. Gov. Phil Bryant signed into law a bill that
could shut down the only abortion clinic in the state, hailing it as an important step to “ensure that the lives of the born and unborn are protected in Mississippi.”
House Bill 1390, which passed the state Senate [...]
I don’t actually believe there’s a war on Christianity, as so many right-wing Christian websites would have you believe, and here’s partial proof:
There is a boatload (arkload?) of federal money going to faith-based (in this case, Christian) social service agencies that are pretty restrictive in their hiring.
Sally Steenland and Jessica Arons write at Center for American Progess:
Jobs, the economy, and debt—all of these are tied to access to affordable contraception. But Ann [Romney] and others seemed to miss the fact that contraception and the economy do not live in separate realms. In fact, they are closely connected.
Well, maybe you don’t, but you should.
