A startup football league — the A-11 Spring-summer Professional Football League (A-11FL) – looking to kickoff in April 2013 has targeted Hartford/West Hartford as a potential landing spot for one of its team.
According to league president Kurt Bryan, representatives from the league have been talking to Hartford officials about the possibility of forming a team in the city.
One of the main differences between the A-11FL (aside from its unique formation) is that each team will be brought into the league through crowdfunding, creating teams that are partially owned by the fans.
To secure lifetime home territory rights of its A-11 team, “city groups,” which are any combination of public, public/private and/or private parties, must pay approximately $15,000 in initial fees, then raise $1 million via crowd funding in order to launch each team’s operations by offering stock shares to its fan base. Each team can then sell up to 49% of their team stock to private investors. Teams can then come into the league under its single entity umbrella. Once ten teams have officially joined the league has the option of selling its shares privately and/or have its own Initial Public Offering to raise more capital.
“We want the fans to know one thing out of the gate: this is their team,” Bryan said.
Bryan expects the A-11FL to receive at least five or six letters of intents from “city groups” who wish to join the league by the end of April.
