Track closures from Friday night’s Metro North train crash could present problems for families and friends traveling to New Haven for the Yale Commencement exercises this weekend.

More than 70 people were injured in the collision, which officials said appeared to happen after one of the trains derailed. Eight people remain in hospitals, officials said. Train passengers who expected to come north from New York City to Yale will be forced to take alternative forms of transportation. All Metro North train travel is stopped at South Norwalk and is indefinitely suspended. Amtrak service between New York and New Haven is also suspended. Officials on Saturday said they do not know when service will be restored.

The main events for Yale’s graduation are on Sunday and Monday.

Yale University had created a mobile site, m.commencement.yale.edu to alert people as to transportation issues prior to the accident with up to the minute information.Bruce Judson, president of the site developer Judson Mobile, said, ” While we can’t change the situation, our mobile capabilities are helping to ease the challenges parents and families now face in traveling to the graduation.”

But sources said that interest has gotten stronger more recently, coming at the same time as Tumblr has been stepping up its efforts to raise a large funding round that could value the New York company at $1 billion.

What does a spell uttered by Harry Potter and a MacBook Pro have in common?

The Mac on your desk or on the cafe table next to you has a chip with secret functions that can be unlocked only by inputting a spell from the Harry Potter series. The SMC, or system management controller, is a chip used to regulate a Mac’s current and voltage, manage its light sensor, and temporarily store FileVault keys. Turns out that the SMC contains undocumented code that is invoked by entering the word “SpecialisRevelio,” the same magic words used to reveal hidden charms, hexes, or properties used by wizards in the Harry Potter series written by author J. K. Rowling.

Even Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL), which argued for relaxed rules, told the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration its pilots and mechanics reported 27 suspected incidents of passenger electronics causing aircraft malfunctions from 2010 to 2012. Atlanta-based Delta said it couldn’t verify there was interference in any of those cases.

One interesting point in the article is while some airlines moved to iPads instead of paper charts and manuals, the tablets are set to not use their internal radio connections.
