A story on NakedSecurity.com describes how the high end retailer and other stores track customers as the walk from department to department. The article says the technology is in use in 17 of the companies stores. This data would provide a constantly updated “heat map” for what sections of the store that are popular. It’s not believed that personal data is being scanned. In other words they supposedly aren’t storing your phone, name or addresses.

It’s common for a smart phone to look for wifi signals. One way to stop the phone from doing this is to turn the wireless off or go even farther and turn the phone off entirely.
