Pew: Adult Smartphone Ownership Up 10% From May 2011
Everyone who isn’t talking about Jim Calhoun is talking about the iPhone 5 today. New data from the Pew Research Center shows just how many people are actually using smartphones.
According to Pew’s survey that was conducted from Aug. 7-Sept. 6, 45% of American adults own smartphones, up from 35% in May 2011.
Some other interesting figures:
- More Americans own smartphones than own “feature” cell phones, or phones that do not have a smartphone operating system such as Apple’s or Google’s.
- 5% of adults say they don’t even know if they have a smartphone (ha!).
- 15% of American adults have no cell phone at all.
Pew surveyed 3,014 adults for this study. The results have a margin of error of plus or minus two points.
