Prescription Drugs And Driving Might Not Mix Well, AAA Introduces Website To Highlight Dangers
People know the dangers of driving under the influence but may be less aware of the dangers some prescription drugs may pose.
The Automobile Association of America Foundation for Traffic Safety is offering Roadwise Rx, an online tool which lists common side effects of medications, both prescription and over-the-counter. AAA said in a statement that users can see how medications, herbal supplements and foods may combine, which in turn could cause a dangerous situation on the road. Users can then talk about their situation with either their health care provider or their pharmacist.
“A recent AAA survey found that women (58 percent) are more likely than men (46 percent) to seek counsel on the risks of driving while on medication, yet this is an issue that all older drivers and their families need to address,” said AAA Public Affairs Manager Aaron Kupec.
