Verizon Wireless announced today the recent activation of new 4G LTE coverage in Mansfield to enhance the network’s coverage at UConn and along Routes 44, 195, 275 and 320.

Verizon’s 4G LTE network — the largest of its kind — provides Verizon customers with 4G devices with download speeds up to 10 times faster than when using 3G networks.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $3 billion into its New England network since 2000, including more than $297 million in 2011, the company said.

“People across Connecticut are increasingly relying on tablets, smartphones and apps to stay organized, connected and entertained. Our investment in Tolland County — and across New England — has kept us ahead of these consumer trends and underscores our belief that 4G LTE delivers the best value to customers by maximizing the performance of their wireless devices,” executive director for Network for Verizon Wireless, Richard Enright said.

Verizon says that by the end of 2012, the 4G LTE network will be in more than 400 markets across 49 states.
