No New NFL Teams, Yes More NFL Games On Prime-Time
OK, forget talk about NFL expansion for now. Do stay tuned for more prime-time games.
On “Costas Live” on NBC Sports Network Thursday night, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said if the NFL puts a team in Los Angeles the league would likely expand to 34 franchises. He said the NFL didn’t want to move any existing teams.
That sparked speculation about expansion, speculation dashed Friday during Goodell’s annual Super Bowl state of the league address. Goodell said expansion hasn’t been on the agenda and he doesn’t see it in the foreseeable future.
You will see more games on prime-time television, however. The number of games will expand from eight to 13 on the NFL Network on Thursday nights. Every team will appear on prime-time during Weeks 2 through 15, with the exception of Week 12.
