What’s goin on?

About 30 teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey are set to compete in 7 on 7 competition this weekend as part of Coach Paul Pasqauloni’s big camp month.

Eastern Christian Academy (Md.) will also have a team in the competition. The Huskies are interested in several recruits from this program including a couple of guys they already have offers in to: Khaliel Rodgers, a 6 foot 320-pound four-star guard who has offers in hand from Auburn. Ohio State, Purdue, Iowa, UCLA, West Virginia to name a few and Wendell Smallwood, a 5-11, 194-pound three-star running back who also has an offer from Auburn, to go along with West Virginia, Temple and Rutgers to name a few.

There are others the staff is believed to be focused in this group: Dakiel Shorts,  6-1, 199-pound three star receivers with offers in hand from Boise State, Maryland, N.C. State and Boston College, along with Neiko Creamer, a 6-4, 215-pound receiver three-star who has offers from Rutgers and Temple.

UConn signed one of its targets from the schoool last week in Dhameer Bradley, a 5-10 speedy wide receiver who is also scheduled to visit UConn unofficially on Monday.

Now that uconn has all of the parts for football success, we must make sure that the rest of the story ( the business end ) is also being prudently managed. Umass is getting pumped up for Uconn. Good, but who initially decided that it will be a home game at the rent? If it was initially announced that the game was at foxboro on a saturday and free rent at gillette by Kraft with the patriots away and foxboro empty, what conn. decision maker would refuse. The fans would accept the location and would be able to see the uconn players that are recruited and written about in the hartford courant. Umass would fill the joint. Rhode Islanders would go too. My question is then this, did HCPP have any input in scheduling Umass at the rent? Who did not try to arrange a deal with foxboro? Is there a spook in the mix or a new player who has to be greased for this win / win game to happen at foxboro ? Nothing is ever as it seems. The Ncaa will tell you that.

The game was scheduled before Pasqualoni became coach. Also, going forward, who who really is in charge of scheduling/venues (not necessarily start times and definitely not TV) It’s the athletic director.

Thanks Dez. It sounds like PP and staff are doing a terrific job building relationships for UConn football and maximizing their chances with potential recruits. Go UConn!

Good stuff Dez, appreciate the info. Gotta be impressed by the early recruiting job HCPP and his staff have done this year.

DC, I don’t remember Edsall having these specific types of camps. I could be mistaken though. Anyway, this is a great way to get kids on campus. They’ll all get a good luck at those first rate facilities. Hoping for a commit or 2 in the coming week.

I don’t remember if he had one or not but I also don’t recall this kind of emphasis being placed on their importance under Edsall, either. I mean I’m clear on how big PPs camps are to the staff …. and I mean crystal clear, too.

Dez, Do you know which schools from CT are competing? Thanks
