I don’t see this as a big deal as there will be 11 teams in the Big East in 2013. Let them go and move on.
Let them go – with added compensation paid so they can leave early – and move on. Why not make the best of the situation.
If Marinatto is now thinking about allowing Pitt and the Orange to leave the BE early, he surely has to consider what WVU paid to get out. Reported estimates are that it was nearly $20M, which I presume includes the $5M exit fee (that’s often been discussed), plus some sort of remuneration tied to television/radio and other media rights.
Don’t see why this is a surprise or a big deal? Now that we have the new teams coming in 2013 we don’t need Syracuse or Pitt. Yeah, I’ll miss playing them in basketball but they want out, why go through the same public disaster like we just did with WVU.
The big focus needs to be on who can they bring in for this upcoming season! My bet is still on Boise St since it’s being reported that the WAC has given the green light for Boise’s other sports to enter the conference for 2012.
Why not let them go now so there will be only 5 teams playing Big East football? Drop them…then add the likes of Maine and maybe Buffalo and who knows? The way things are going with college football, this will be our best chance of seeing a BCS game for decades to come!….just sayin’
Maine and Buffalo? Please tell me you are joking!
A little humor from that clown that use to coach here. Poor Danny O’Brien, you have to feel bad for this kid. Dealing with Edsall cannot be easy.

Relax Jeff, Silly must call him or her self that for a reason. Sick Pup would be more apropos. The schools mentioned are simply silly.
I will say though having picked on SB that many are expressing the same line of thought. It will be hard for this conference to hold a BCS bid. It will be even harder for UCONN to sell many season tix this year with the line up that is left without WVU. They have many by the footballs because Michigan and The Turtles are coming in next year and they are promoting it. That and this year begins a new three year cycle.
We can only hope they are working their dog tail off to get the Hillbillies, Oranges and Pussycats money to by out the opponents of our new comers and get a decent schedule asap.
Go Dogs……
