Thought this would happen sooner after his comments about UConn last year but the writing probably went on the  wall not long afterward…

From Boston.com which points to a struggling football program under his watch there…

Boston College athletic director Gene DeFillippo is…”retiring

When you get done reading that read the following from college football talk – via nbcsports – one that really got DeFillippo’s rear in a real sling last year

Wonder what this now means for UConn and the ACC? DeFillippo had been a chief blocker against UConn joining the ACC. That’s not a secret.

Cannot forget this person in 2004 after Miami and Va tec left being part of the 6 musketeers (all for one and one for all) on friday and by sunday they were in the ACC. NO ETHICS what so ever. If you cannot get ethics at a Catholic College Where?

While I agree what those schools did was a scumbag move let’s not pretend that UConn wouldn’t do the same thing. UConn basically begged the ACC to take them and even now with the new “united” Big East UConn would jump ship in the blink of an eye if given the opportunity.

Publicus, no argument here as for years we were a basketball school. I ask you to wake up and smell the tailgate.
How many times do you have to read football drives the bus? Lou had it right and so did the state by building a nice starter stadium. This along with 20,000 season ticket holders many along with myself that do not hold basketball season tickets.
Again not being slanderous but do you not see what our soccer, track, field hockey and other teams do? Not to mention ice hockey moving up in status.
Sorry, I do not see UCONN as just a basketball school.

Really no excuse not to go 2-0 versus the ACC this season.

    • TheJerk says:

NCState no joke this year. Most likely UC’s toughest game

      • roberttherugguyraleigh says:

NC state Offense no joke, but no returning linebackers, McCombs could have a big day. NC State has to play Tenessee the week before also on the road to open the season in Atlanta, Connecticut home all summer and week 1 going into the NC State matchup. Love TheJerk!

  4. Publicus says:

    Good riddance to bad trash.

Now UConn should get into the ACC as quickly as possible, especially with the new Big East chief declaring football is primary. UConn is a basketball school and that’s where its old rivals (not BC – remember 22 straight losses to UConn) and new natural rivals (NC schools) are.

  5. Scott says:

Would have to agree with Artie here.Would really love to see that happen as A Uconn Football season ticket holder for the last 8 years!

  6. ROADRUNNER says:

@Artie …Niiiiiice!!! The equivalent of Pitt WVU backyard brawl….definitely !!! Someone hire this guy!!

    • Steve says:

A backyard brawl that is no longer due to conference affiliation, same reason until UConn is in ACC this concept would never work. Especially with UConn needing to schedule tougher OOC opponents, BC really isnt on the radar.

  7. Artie A... says:

UCONN VS BC …Thanks Giving Day weekend every year.
    Home and home…NO BRAINER

The New England Cup! A long time dream…

  8. ROADRUNNER says:

Exactly RST …No truer spoken words

  9. RST says:

Not sure that I really care. UConn has to run clean programs, graduate their student athletes, and win games. Focus on what they can control. The rest will take care of itself.

  10. Marcus says:

He was absolutely paranoid that a school with a dairy farm in, gasp, Nowhere, CT, could lay claim to Big Bad Beantown’s “turf.”

That said, if a tree falls in the forest…
