What’s goin on?

Spoke to UConn incoming freshman Zach Rugg, the 6 foot 5 285-pound offensive linemen out of Johnstown, PA. and Bishop McCort High a short time ago.

He was excited about competing in the prestigious Big 33 Football Classic Saturday night against Ohio’s best.

Another incoming UConn frosh, linebacker Jon Hicks (6-3, 235) from Palmyra (Palmyra Area), will also be competing for Pennsylvania.

“Every player in the game is going to a major Division I school.” Rugg said. “I think the week of practice prepared me for what I’ll probably see in college, playing against top-notch competition every week. It was great. I’m looking forward to the game.”

Rugg said the week-long practices (minus today’s practice) were all double session and the players really got after it.

Rugg said he can’t wear anything highlighting his decision to UConn but you’ll be able to find him.

“No,” he said with a chuckle. “We’re not allowed to attract attention to ourselves like that but you’ll see me at left tackle wearing No.70 and John Hicks will be wearing No.52.”
