Tom Myers, a 6 foot 4, 235-pound tight end at Coventry High has committed to the Huskies.

He is the fifth member of the 2013 class and second state of Connecticut player in the group along with receiver/athlete Noel Thomas from St. Luke’s School in New Canaan.

Myers’ father, Norm played football at UConn in the 1980s and mother Peggy, played for the UConn womens team also in the early to mid 80s.

Interestingly enough, the Huskies are getting in offensively so far with this class.

In addition to a tight end and receiver/athlete coming next year the Huskies have added a quarterback Richard Lagow, a three-star quarterback from Plano, Tx, added a Kashif Moore-type in Dhameer Bradley, a speedy receiver from Eastern Christian (Md.) Academy and they’ve got an offensive lineman in 6-6 Tommy Hopkins from Thornwood, N.Y.

I used to play for Coventry Back in 03′ 04′, My junior year was our first ever varsity season, so its still a very new program only about 10 years deep now.. Im glad to see this kid get picked up by a BCS Team esp with Coventry being so small and being a Co-Op with Windham Tech. , Ive seen Tommy play a few times this past season, especially the Thanksgiving day game agaisnt Ellington… Hes a big Kid, probably strongest on the team, good hands.. Can Also Boot the ball out of the Endzone…. Congrats TOM,

    Hey Dez,

Good to hear. It seems we are missing out on some of the Top CT Recruits this year though. BC has taken 3 of the Top Recruits out of CT this year(disappointing), this doesn’t make sense to me b/c the BC Coach is Most Likely gone if they struggle again this year.
    Your thoughts?

This used to be a regular occurrence in the past, right JD? Who knows why a kid chooses to go to another program over another. It’s the kid’s decision. That being said look at the kids UConn had gotten from CT that it wouldn’t have gotten previously beginning with Casey Cochran and most likely the receiver from New Canaan. Anyway I was always taught to focus on the things you have and can control. It’s tough right now to knock what UConn has done in the past year as far as state kids go JD. No state program gets all their kids to stay home. Some want to go away but not too far; some want to go far; some even realize leaving wasn’t a good move at all no matter where it was. Bottom line, the program has gotten some nice state players since Pasqualoni arrived. Enjoy it because it’s new.

    Hey Dez,

As always thanks for keeping us updated on UConn football. Glad to see we are keeping the local kids home!

As an aside, Barone decommitted yesterday.
