What’s goin on?

Yes, Gary Wilburn got a call from the Tennessee Titans – well his agent first – he said about 30 minutes after the draft Saturday inviting him in for a free agent tryout.

He’ll start out there May 10.

“It was an unbelievable feeling [when they called], surreal,” Wilburn said by phone a few minutes ago and excited obviously. “I told you I felt like I was one of the better defensive backs in the draft, I felt that and one of the most athletic, too. You know, I watched the whole draft. My agent told me there was a chance I could go in the seventh round and it didn’t happen but I got a call not to long after that.”

Well Wilburn certainly proved he’s an athlete. Those numbers he put up at UConn’s Pro Day were pretty real and he did it front of at least 32 NFL reps who were on hand in Storrs a little over a month ago.

Wilburn  had a 4.46 40, a 39-inch vertical jump, 10-6 on the broad jump and had 24 reps of 225 pounds to lead all participants in three of the four big events.

Many will argue the athleticism did not transfer over to consistent efforts on the field. Wilburn will not.

The eyes don’t lie. What’s on film is what’s on film but…

Wilburn had been working on his game quite a bit since the sesaon was over, all aspects of it, and he believes he’s a better player who will only get better.

That’s all that matters, really.

“I would just say again that anybody has a dream to not give up on that dream, work for it. That’s what I tried to do. I haven’t reached my goal yet but I have an opportunity. I worked hard and asked God every day just to have an opportunity to make a team.”

Congratulations to Wilburn

Congratulations to wide receiver Kashif Moore who got the same deal going with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Congratulations G. Keep representing us Tigers. You don’t know how proud I am of you. Now reach your goal…be able to say you played in the league for years. Special things happen to people who live right and never stop believing.

I met Gary as a kid and he has always had his head straight. I know he will be determined to do a great job as long as he has the opportunity. “G” if you read this, stay focused as you have been and good luck!!!! Breylan…

Why are there no stories written about Wilburn and Moore as free agents?

check the paper for Wilburn today. I didn’t get Kashif until today. There’s a story online probably right now and in the paper tomorrow. I’ve also suggested folks follow me on twitter @desmondconner because I put a lot of news there first. If you don’t want to go that route I guess that’s cool, too. Otherwise I’m going as fast as I can, getting folks when I can get them and writing it when I get them. Hopefully this helps
