Former UConn DT Kendall Reyes Says He’s Pleased With Effort At NFL Combine Today
What’s goin’ on?
Big Kendall Reyes is at the airport at this hour heading back to New Hampshire then soon back to UConn to start working out again but the 6 foot 4, 299-pound defensive tackle, like receiver Kashif Moore yesterday, had a good day of his own today.
He didn’t do anything to hurt his draft stock or position, which most believe, will be in the late first-round second round area.
“Yeah, I thought I did good but this was just one stop,” Reyes said. “There’s still a lot of things left to do.”
Not on Monday there wasn’t.
Reyes posted a 4.79 on his first 40 yard-dash attempt, 4.88 on the second but officially left with a 4.95.
“I had been working really hard,” Reyes said. “It was definitely a time I wanted to get [under five seconds].”
Reyes and more than 15 other linemen ran sub five-second 40s which is just incredible (look out NFL backs and QBs), isn’t it? It is to me.
Reyes also tied for second on the bench press snatching 225 pounds 36 times. He also tied for seventh in the vertical jump with a leap of 34.5 inches. He went 9 feet 5 inches in the Broad Jump, 7.43 seconds in the 3-cone drill and 4.53 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle. Reyes the linemen didn’t have to do the 60-yard shuttle.
Off the field, interviews, testing, Reyes was happy with how he did there, too.
“Every meeting is different, you know? They get you up on film, basically you have to explain plays, draw them up the board, those kinds of things, tell them about yourself and all that stuff. I thought I did pretty well in the interviews.”
Between the Senior Bowl and the Combine Reyes has talked to every NFL team.
“Didn’t really hear any feedback. I just have to stay in shape, do Pro Day [at UConn March 28] and go from there,” Reyes said.
From there he’ll be awaiting the April draft where he’ll likely be a Day 1 pull but Reyes isn’t focused on it.
“I definitely would like to get drafted but that’s just one step,” Reyes said. “Being drafted is not the end of the road it’s just the beginning so if I get drafted I’m on a new team. I have to make the team and do everything I can to make the team better.”
