There’s still no word on whether he will receive a waiver from the NCAA allowing him to play right away but former Xavier-Middletown and Florida reserve linebacker Graham Stewart who once had UConn atop his recruiting list, is officially a Husky, enrolled in school and taking summer classes.

Between this and the preferred walk-on status given to Sean Marinan Jr. things could be looking real good in landing X senior QB Tim Boyle.

Boyle is a boss (that means he’s good) . I hear that on the regular and more and also that more programs are catching on to this young man…

Heck of a program over at Xavier…

Anyway here’s the release from UConn on Stewart….

UConn Athletic Communications – May 31, 2012 – Stewart Transfers To UConn

STORRS, Conn. (May 31, 2012) — Graham Stewart, a 6-1, 227-pound linebacker from Durham, Conn., has transferred to the University of Connecticut after spending the 2011-12 academic year at Florida. Stewart will have three years of eligibility at Connecticut and is currently enrolled in summer school courses at UConn.

Stewart saw action in 12 games as a true freshman last year for the Gators with one tackle. He scored a touchdown in the Gator Bowl against Ohio State after returning a blocked punt 14 yards for the score.

Stewart attended Xavier High School in Middletown, Conn. He had 111 tackles with five sacks and an interception in his senior year of 2010. The Xavier defense gave up just 116 points in 13 games in 2010. He helped lead Xavier to the 2010 Connecticut Class LL State Championship with a 13-0 record and the team was first in the final state rankings.

He was named the Hartford Courant’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2010, was an All-State selection by the New Haven Register and played in the Team USA vs. World All-Star Game following his senior season. He was also an All-Southern Connecticut Conference selection.

Coach PP seams to have the magic when it comes to transfers. Not sure why they don’t choose UConn in the first place. Any ideas ?

Maybe, just maybe…::gasp::..HCPP knows what he is doing! Take that UConn critics and haters!

Well I wouldn’t go that far. Keeping players home is great if your in FL, TX, CA and states like that. Keeping the talent here in CT isn’t going to build anything great. It’s a nice story to have local kids stick around but building around CT talent isn’t going to move the program to new territory.

Dear Alan W., Everyone has their own opinion, I will kindly disregard yours, but thanks for sharing. You have to keep the best home first. Coach Paul is doing that.

      • Frank says:

Alan, I respect your opinion and at one time MAY have agreed with you but for YEARS now, the UConn critics, haters, nay sayers, and so on had been killing Ex-HCRE for not keeping talent from CT in CT. He had a well-documented, contentious relationship with the high school coaches, would not go out of his way to recruit any of the top talent from the state, lost players like Graham Stewart, Aaron Hernandez and others to other schools. It doesnt matter if its Texas, Iowa, Nevada or Guam, you keep your talent in state. This keeps the fan base invested in the product besides just the UConn name. Why did everyone love Dan Orlovsky? Yes, he was great but at the same time…HE WAS A CT kid. UConn fans cannot have it both ways. We cannot kill a coach for not keeping the talent home and when we do get a coach that does, say that its not a good enough. This is how you build a program. You start with the home grown talent, keep the fans invested and passionate, bring in the right mix of kids from outside the state and get something going. Is this the only way for HCPP? No…but its a hell of a lot better than RE was doing. PP is starting to bring in the type of recruits that he wants for his system and he is, and it is well documented, starting with the kids from CT.

Exceptional recruiting, and then some. Everyone is coming home, including the coach, or staying home, Casey.
