Wyatt Vinci, a 6 foot 2, 240-pound outside linebacker/fullback from The Hun (N.J.) school has given UConn an oral commitment.

Vinci, who attends the same school Huskies receiver Nick Williams did, made an official visit to Storrs this past weekend.

He will be a fullback at UConn

Maybe this is why Hinkley isn’t coming back? Too bad as the kid played well all season and wasn’t even on scholarship.

Have no idea what is up with Hinkley but definitely appreciated his play.
No idea what this guy could do as a frosh but one look at his neck size says football.

Pretty sure Vinci had nothing to do with Hinkley’s situation; he took on bigger challenges in winning a position in the starting lineup last year, having never been a back, than looking over his shoulder at a freshman recruit. Looks like HCPP could have pulled the trigger and given him a scholarship early on, but for some reason chose not to. College football is a business; loyalty and “equity” don’t carry the day. Too bad, #39 was the best walk-on and, after 4 years of paying his dues, he gets screwed. We will miss him, his zero penalties, and his blocking – Mr. Reliable! If he goes, best of luck to him. Got my fingers crossed for HCPP and his decisions.

No spitting match here Igotone and all the respect in the world for Hinkley. But to call him the best walk on is a little misleading. Then again that could just be another mans judgement but do realize we presently have two walk ons on NFL rosters. That and one of them is going to The Super Bowl.

Good point, and true; should have been more specific – I was only talking about last season, and the 2011 squad. Thanks for providing the opportunity to clarify that! I wish him luck next year, wherever he ends up if UConn is not in the cards.
