Mr. Conner,
How do you walk into a trainwreck? So you see a trainwreck and walk into it?
I realize that Edsall didn’t leave an adequate Scholarship QB on the roster but the cupboard was hardly bare.
Secondly, didn’t we have pretty good running back on the roster last season? Didn’t he win some kind of award? Isn’t he STILL on the roster? Just checking.
Also, don’t we have a ton of seniors and studs still playing defense? The scary part is that this is the best our defense is likely to be for years to come, and it was all due to Randy Edsall and not Paul Pasqualoni.
Your opinion matters, because it can bias your reporting. And I believe it has.
The problem for fans is not that the Huskies hit tough times, and so fans are just giving up. No it is much more systemic. Fans are leaving because they don’t see any upsides for UConn football. Many UConn fans are and were hoping to get out of this conference. The Big East next year, is welcoming in how many really lousy programs. But hey Coach P. won’t be the worst team in the Big East we will have Memphis for that! Our coach will have an even worse defense and I my guess UConn fans will soon watch the departure of DC Donald Brown. UConn will be meed in the Big East with no way out, Louisville will be out to the Big XII within three years and Cincinnati likely joining them. So, the one thing UConn can do for their fans weather it is right or not FIRE coach P now…the UConn administrators have too many other things beyond their control. What makes not firing coach P right, he won’t get his third year, maybe that is a mistake but I doubt it. Get a new coach with a new system with several new schools in the Big East and we may have an advantage. Plus find out what DC Donald Brown wants so we can keep him. Next year our defense without him will be like our offense was this year.
My problem isn’t Coach P as is Deleone. He needs to be gone and have someone else come in.
Hi Dez, Very frustrating time and the biggest problem for me is that the school and the State have invested lots of money into a program that doesn’t have a rabid fanbase to fall back on during tough times. This is turning off existing fans and potential ones and I’m concerned. We were seemingly headed for big things. There was optimism and hope to grow the program, maybe even expand the stadium, but now we are sadly regressing.
You said: “I don’t want to speak for Warde but as an AD I’m guessing he’s sticking by his guy long enough to where he feels he’s had enough time to turn things around.”
You know what? Coach P is not his guy. He’s Hathaway’s guy and I just can’t see Warde banking his legacy on PP and GD. He’s simply smarter than that. And, as you’ve seen, Ms. Herbst does not sanction mediocrity for very long. Am I wrong in expecting a change sooner than you do?
Hi Larry
Didn’t mean Manuel hired him, meant he’s Manuel’s football coach right now.
You’re a well-connected guy at UConn Larry you could probably get an answer on this as fast as I could, lol.
Anyway, it’s really not about my expectations. I’m not a player here. I just report the information I receive and based on that information I wouldn’t expect a change during the season or afterward.
All the best to you and your family
RD Whitmer should be nervous. The defense goes right through the offensive line and he is dead meat!I can’t believe he has done as well as he has with no line and no running game
#94 (Ryan Griffin) has been doing very well. He is a BIG boy, but he knows how to squeeze into small cracks and produce downs, especially when they are most needed. I would like to see the QBs sending the ball in his direction a little bit more. Kudos, Ryan.
Whitmer does not check down well. He locks on a receiver
from the snap. Looks like he may be a little nervous.
