wow, Dez, I just read your last comment on the chat. unbelievable! “PP walked into a train wreak at uconn, is trying to fix it and it takes more than 24 months to fix.” I’m still shocked at that biased interpretation. You lose alot of credibility when you make comments like that.( borders on propaganda.) I personally think that your making excuses for the coaching staff trying to implement outdated, faulty offensive schemes that don’t work. Lack fundamentals, bad blocking technique, stubborn play calling, and weak in-game management.
Can you honestly – honestly – say the offense was in decent shape when Paul Pasqualoni arrived Dwayne? Honestly can you say that? I would say with the exception of a couple of teams the Big East talent has gotten better, UL or at least maintained what it had. UConn lost some talent when Edsall left including a really good tailback. There was no tested QB behind. You’re not just going to step in and fix that with what was on that side of the ball. Are you? Look at the offensive line. Outside of Masters where was the real experience? It was leaving the next year after Ryan and Petrus. I should have been a little clearer about the offense being a train wreck. The defense is fine that was its worst performance of the season on Friday. No the defense is fine but offensively, this team didnt have the pieces to be all that successful when Pasqualoni arrived. The offense should fit the talent. I’ve said that. It looks to me like they’re trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and hoping it’ll wedge in. I think you have to seriously look at having DeLeone focus on job next year. I think you at least have to do that but if you look at some of the offensive talent around the league vs what UConn had you have to at least be open to the fact UConn wasn’t/isn’t on par with most of the teams in the league. They may be improvements for the program in general but when you see it against other talent in the league it’s a step behind Dwayne. Also, on the last comment, I support another season for Pasqualoni. Two seasons isn’t enough. However in Year Three if things aren’t going in the right direction then I think you have a decision to make going forward. I think you have to respect what Pasqusloni came into, and again I mean offensively, give him time. Last season almost can’t count. Understand this season was a bad one, get players, fit the scheme to players and see where it goes. If it’s not showing signs of straightening up in Year Three….
Agree on square pegs, round holes. Agree two years is not enough. But like it or not, a record of 3-9, with two out of the three being FCS schools, may make the second point moot.
Meant to say MAC schools, not FCS. The point stands though.
Dez, you make some valid points in your reply. Can I honestly, say that the team PP inherited was in decent shape offensively? No, you are correct I cannot say that. But the point is that this 2012 team was supposed to be better than 2011 and they are not. The honest fact is that this team is regressing under PP. The O-line looks even more confused and soft than 2011 or any year before. And the team is getting worse as 2012 progresses instead of any better. That’s a great cause for concern. They find new innovative ways to be just good enough to lose. That’s a big problem. Its like a computer with a hidden virus that keeps malfunctioning. At first it just small things, but as time progresses things get worse not better. This is currently the case at uconn. Now with regards to these recruits, can you honestly tell me that the 2013 class is really gonna make that much of a difference in 2013. Lets see they currently have 2 linemen coming in, you think they change to line as freshmen? No they will not, they will probably redshirt. Same thing with 2012 this year, so to think that freshmen are gonna magically enroll in june and the team is gonna get instantly better is folly. Most of PP first recruiting class can’t even make the two deep as freshmen, cause the older guys are better.
Dwayne – first I think there is some regressing but let’s no pretend this team was to turn the corner after the Fiesta Bowl. Remember how UConn got in, the league that year and the backlash from people even around here that they did. That’s not a slight on what the Huskies did that year but I think we have to be honest about some things. Some of these freshmen will play next year, could have played this year if you ask me. You can dispute that if you want. They do have to get some linemen
