Q: QB competition is over. Shakim Phillips is the real deal. Nick Williams has an extra gear just when he needs it. The D is awesome. The O ground game, not so much, in fact very worrisome if this game is any indication. Would you agree? What would you add? RST, Bolton

A: I don’t think there was much focus on the running game Saturday but the offensive line has its work cut out with a new scheme. It should make things easier for the line down the road but right now between that and injuries to Jimmy Bennett and Adam Masters, a couple of starters, it’s looks a little messy right now but there is talent and depth there, just not a lot of experience.

One Response to Mailbag April 23: Ground Game Worrisome?

  1. RST says:

Forgot to mention that Martin Hyppolite moved the stack five yards a couple of times. That was the one part of the ground game that did look encouraging.

Also, the QB competition might actually have concluded before the game — with the game as the final test. Whitmer was throwing to the best receivers and had only to contend with the number two pass rush.
