Q: The 2012 spring roster has 69 scholarship players. The 21 recruits coming in June bring the total to 90, 5 over the limit. How will we get down to the 85 limit: normal attrition,non-renewing scholarships, or greyshirting? – Tony Balchunas, Canton, Mass.

A: Check your numbers again as far as who is coming in June. I have 19. So does the UConn website release from signing day. There is no way of answering this question today other than in general terms Tony. Coaches aren’t going to give information here because they don’t know yet either. It’s February 14 – and Happy Valentines Day by the way – the coaches have until the end of preseason practice (that’s in August) to make these decisions if they have to but we know it always has and always will get done through some kind attrition right, Tony? Whether it be kids leaving the program period or high schoolers going the prep school route. This always gets done and never is an issue. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, UConn is usually short of the 85 or right at it when the season starts so bottom line – don’t worry about it. It’ll happen one way or another but to tell you exactly how today just isn’t possible.

One Response to Mailbag Feb.14: How Will UConn Get Its Roster Numbers Down To 85?

  1. Artie A... says:

Tony…Love a man from Mass here…Relax, August 2nd, full moon will probably solve the problem.
There is a band with voodoo in their name playing at a club near campus that night. I can’t divulge their name or that of the club as a member of Dogs With Bones.
I can tell you though they will be debuting their new song on that night. “Randy is coming back”
Rest assured a half dozen will transfer by day break…
