Mailbag Feb.5: Will Defense Still Have Attacking Style
Q: Hi Dez, With Hank Hughes becoming the Defensive Coor., do you see the same Don Brown style Attacking/ Aggressive Defense, or does he bring a different style? – Tom, Manchester
A: Hey Tom. Wondering myself. I think UConn was able to pressure the way it did because it had a lot of experienced players. The defense will be a little younger especially on the corners this year so I’m not sure that’s going to allow you to play as aggressively all the time. I don’t know, really. Maybe spring ball gives us a better idea. My guess is the staff wants to see who can do what now and go from there.

HH will figure out what they’ve got and adjust accordingly. Suspect he already has. Great choice.
Must have been tough for Hank to step back when Don Brown came in. He had already done a great job for the Huskies.
A character guy. I’m very confident in his abilities and expect another great UConn D.
I don’t expect to see as much pressure on HH as we did DB, but I do expect the defense to be extremely fundamentally sound and make little to mistakes, which will put a lot of pressure on the opposing offense to be as perfect as possible. Remember HH, had top defenses in the league pretty much every year he was DC under RE. In my opinion, I think the sack totals are going to go down, but the defense will cause more turn overs.
