Q: I know we’re only allowed one FCS team per season. But if West Virginia bails on us, could we add one to replace them in 2012 since UMass (scheduled as that FCS opponent) is now in FBS? – Gregory Koch, Poughkeepsie/Storrs

A: Yes…no, haven’t heard any potential opponents yet. Thanks Gregory.

Big East settled, WVU is gone.

Welcome to the Mid Major world of College Football. What an epic failure by the Big East. This is not what we expected when moving up and joining the Big East. Cuse and Pitt are gone after the 2012 season.

looks like WVU is gone after all. And it looks like the WAC is talking to Boise about letting the olympic sports in this year which would clear the way for Boise to slide over early, which would be a good thing. I di find it amusing that UCONN is looking for season tix money now, and at this point they do not even know how many games there will be at home

This is such an epic fail that now theres no point in even trying to write or complain or save anything. The Big East has been over and now WVU and CUSE and PITT are gone what are we really doing. Even if Boise comes in and Wins a national championship as a big east team and everyone celebrates it wont matter cause they will just leave that same year like everyone else does. Marinatto just declined to comment this morning, of course he didnt comment, whats he gonna say, uhhh I have done nothing for years and neither has the last Head of the big east so all the teams leave for greener pastures. Even when we had four good years with out Miami, Va Tech and BC why were we not looking for other teams? Even when the Big 12 was falling apart why didnt we use our basketball power and get some teams like Kansas and Missouri or even Iowa State. Instead we have nothing but average to really bad Conference USA teams. THe only thing an amazing school like Uconn can do with so much basketball power and great facilities and academia is try and join the ACC or big 12 or even BIG TEN cause playing Houston, Memphis and SMU for ever just doesnt seem to intriguing or even make any sense.

    • UCFBfan says:

Unfortunately, that decision is out of UConn’s hands. They can’t force their way into a new conference. They already tried that by begging for the ACC to take them and that got nowhere. So this is what we’re stuck with for now. You can either embrace it or complain. However, if you choose to complain, be ready to do it for quite some time. I don’t see UConn going anywhere anytime soon.

Maybe we can get Notre Dame to come in to fill out WVU’s slot. They were always good at honoring contracts.

  5. Raymond Martineau says:

I agree that uconn will not benefit from these new schools. The best thing for uconn is to dominate the big east. When they do that then the other conferences will look at them in a better light and hopefulloy get in vited to a better conference.
