Q: Hey Des….who knows what will happen with WVU but if they were to leave for the Big 12 next season, is there some plan in place to fill that empty schedule spot? If it results in scheduling a second FCS school, that really hurts since only one victory against a FCS school counts towards bowl eligibility. Any word on what might happen should they settle this and leave for the Big 12 next season? – Steve, Plantsville

A: No word yet but I do keep hearing West Virginia ain’t doin’ 27 more months in the Big East. I hear WVU has to come off a little more money for its early exit which is no big deal because it can be picked up rather easily by somebody else. Outside of that I’ve heard nothing about contingency plans. It may have to happen first I don’t know.

Dez, It really bothers me that the NCAA can punish kids before they get to the NCAA. EX. Ryan Boatright, but West Virginia can bolt even though they signed a contract to stay 27 months. Incredible! Great role models presidents and AD’s are for students and athletes. They want to control things out of their jurisdiction but they don’t control their presidents.

Does the UMass game count as a FCS or FBS game in 2012? I was under the impression (maybe the mistaken impression!) that UMass will be playing 2012 as a MAC team, which means we don’t have any FCS teams on the schedule next year. Anyone with any insight here?

    • Rabid Husky says:

UMASS is an FBS school next year…will play a FULL MAC schedule. So you’re statement is correct..no FCS games. But you may see one on the schedule when WEST VIRGINIA bolts and they have to fill a hole!

I watched College Football Live on ESPN last week and they were specifically discussing the Big12, on every list WV was included…all signs point to no WV in the Big East unless they courts rule they can not leave…

What I read and hearing that Big East has the best team of Lawyers of any Conference, if WVA decides to leave early, WVA will get sued anywhere between 27-30 million easily. If, WVA is force to fulfill it contract then Missouri and SEC will get sued by the Big 12. Its a mess.

  4. Eddie says:

I believe if The Big East signs with Comcast and Comcast throws a bolt load of money towards The Big East Pitt, WVA, and Syracuse will all stay in the Big East. Money Talks

I believe that you have had a little too much to drink if you truly believe that to be true….

      • Eddie says:

UCFBFAN answer this question why are school jumping conferences b/c of MONEY. ADs say its all about conference stability but these ADs make other conferences unstable when they take their schools then move.Since this is the Big East Last Year with ESPN You wait until June of 2012 the Big East will be going to the bank with a fatter check than the ACC.

        • UCFBfan says:

I really wish that it was that simple. Outside of money these schools see that the Big East just isn’t a viable football conference anymore. The only reason it added members was because it had to. The bigwigs in Providence don’t care about football. Heck, some might even wish that they weren’t even involved in the sport. Because of this, they have little to no desire to see the football product improve in the Big East.

Unfortunately, they don’t see that by neglecting the football side, they have now caused three power basketball schools to leave the conference. The same will be said when Lousville follows WVU to the Big 12 and UConn possibly follows Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC.

Finally, there’s no chance any network throws more money at the Big East than even the ACC has. There’s just not enough fan interest. It’s a reality that stinks but is true.

WVU will NEVER return because of the lawsuits and Syracuse and Pitt have tried to stay and see progress but jumped ship as soon as they realized it wasn’t happening.

Eddie, I truly believe you are very wrong about the signing a new T.V contract and have these 3 teams stay…No way in Hell do they stay even with it. The money the Big East gets wont even compare to the Big 12 money.. it might come somewhat close to the ACC deal.. but still wont pass that.. These teams are all gone and we have to accept the fact that SMU, UCF, Boise ST, Houston, and SDSU will be joining the B.E. I know im excited about the new members.. If Only John M. (Big East Commish) added these teams after TCU joined last year. I believe with Cuse, Pitt, WVU and TCU with the new teams that the Big East would finally get the respect we deserve as a Conf.

    • Eddie says:

All I am saying Nick G and UCFBFan Comcast has alot of money and The Big East is their target you wait until June 2012 Comcast will throw the Big East a better Payday than the ACC and Big 12. If I am wrong I will apologize and say I am wrong but what I have read NBC/Comcast wants back into College athletics again.

  6. Steve B says:

How could you possibly think the BE will get a better TV contract then the Big 12 (or even the ACC)? Once WV leaves the BE the league is no better then the MAC in football. And if WV can move to the Big 12 this year that means whoever goes to the BCS out of this barely alive conference will be a national joke like UConn was 2 years ago. Why would Comcast or anyone elso pay big bucks for a desperate league with a mediocre slate of teams and games?
