Mailbag Jan. 8: Any Rumors On Names Of People Who Have Applied For DC Job?

by Categorized: Mailbag Tagged: , Date:

Q: Are there any rumors or names of people who have applied for the DC job?  Will they hire from within the staff or are they looking outside of the staff? Joe, Charlestown, MA

A: I had heard Rick Minter, the former DC at Kentucky, was one of the first to call. I’m not sure what they’ll do yet Joe. The focus has been on recruiting but interviews have happened, including the receivers coach at Cincinnati, T.J. Weist, for a position on the offensive side. From my understanding there is a lot of interest in each opening UConn has and the coaches are returning from rubbing elbows at the AFCA convention in Nashville. We’ll see Joe. Keep in mind, if need be, the former defensive coordinator, is still in the house at UConn in Hank Hughes.

Do you really think Spencer would leave his job at vandy? That program is on the rise while Uconn and paul could be easily fired next year if they lose again.

husky 66, I remember them very well. Dom didn’t know how to handle the talent he had. Mike was one of the purist shooters to ever come out of Bridgeport and Corny was excellent.

Just saw Todd Orlando at the AFCA convention in Nashville and he is currently in the market for a new staff given the situation at fiu. What is the likelihood he is a candidate for his old job. From what I gathered it was a possibility. Thanks dc, have u heard anything regarding this?

I applied for the job, got it, then turned it down. Right now I have offers to be DJ Joeys sidekick, and the dude who sits on top of the bathrooms lighting off firewrks

SEAN SPENCER defensive line coach at Vanderbilt should be at the top of the list. Spencer (a Bulkeley HS grad) is an EXTRAORDINARY RECRUITER (named in the top 50 in the country / top 5 in the SEC), an INSPIRATIONAL COACH (Vandy “D” plays with great passion), and an even GREATER PERSON.

yeah, but does that mean two deep and no blitzing? that’s what it used to be. of course that could have been RE’s influence.

Have to assume that some of Don Brown rubbed off on him in the last two years. He was close enough.
