Q: Dez, what gives? on RIVALS website for in state recruits 2013 4 of the top 5 recruits are committed to Boston College. What is HCPP doing lately?? Traveling to Belgium? The is unbelievable. Peter G, Southbury, Ct

A: Dont know Pete but the top kids do go to other programs in every state. I think it’s unrealistic to think UConn is going to keep them all – don’t you? I also think if you look at what the current head coach has done in a short period of time in regard to keeping top in-state kids home vs. the former head coach of 11, 12 years, it shouldn’t be unbelievable to you at all.

In his first season, HCPP landed Casey Cochran, a two-time state player of the year. He would not have sniffed UConn if PP were not the coach right now and that could be said for a few others too.

Not impressed..if Boise can recruit in a crappy conference so should we…no excuse to loose 4 top kids

I think you need to look no further than the head coach and if you don;t think so look at our basketball programs. The one thing they both have his premire head coaches who BUILT there teams into champions. In both case’s we were nobody till they took over and sold kids into coming here.PP is not exactly young and this is probably his last job in coaching and to be honest he does not look hungry. We need a young hungry coach like JC AND GA were when they started who are commited to the long haul.

Problem for kids in anywhere, they look at college who have more NFL stars at the same time who can win the national title. That is all matter to these kids nowadays. That is why kids go to Boston College more than going to Uconn cuz Boston College have more NFL stars than Uconn. Even-thought Uconn have better head coach today than Boston College. Once Uconn start producing more NFL stars as well they can try to go to one of the BCS bowls more often, then they will get better recruits than Boston College. Also Boston College is a football school while Uconn is a basketball school.

Why recruit the kids from CT when we can get players from Belguim? Wonder what level of competition the kid from Belguim ever faced??
Can’t have it both ways guys–All high fives for HCPP when he gets Cochran, then downplaying losing other top CT HS talent to BC. Long way to go with recruiting for UCONN football! Long way indeed.

What is the big deal about keeping in-state kids? What’s all the fuss about “losing” them? This has been said before, but you want the best kids for the program as a whole regardless of where they are from. When I was looking at colleges I couldn’t wait to leave home, I suspect many in state kids want the same thing.

Love the countdown clock Dez, thanks for sticking it back up there again.

Dc my man, again same song and dance. Until UConn has consistent winning seasons, we will continue to lose top tier talent to out of state schools, including bc. It’s just reality. Keeping Casey Cochran is a start but only if he is utilized or rectory. Getting Graham Stewart back helps as well so in reality, HCPP needs to go o other measures to find talent. He has done a great job keeping in state talent and creating a great relationship with the high school coaches but at the same time, fans need to be realistic (which will not happen for a long time) about recruiting, expectations and this team!
