Q: Hey Des. With all of the press that Coach Addazio is getting lately, I can’t help but feel that Uconn really missed the boat on hiring him. I know that the timing was off, but still… He is creating a ton of buzz around the BC program, killing it on the recruiting trail, generating significant fan interest and excitement in the program. Pretty much everything that isn’t happening in Storrs right now. I can’t help but think with all of the momentum and excitement he could have created if he was hired after Edsall left, the ACC would have invited Uconn over Louisville.
A: Hey Ken. How’s it going? I’m not sure what you want me to say here seeing as though you’e written things like “missed the boat on him” “timing was off”. It seems like you know what the deal is/was. Can I ask you when was the last July a buzz was created around the football program in July? Did the coach prior to the current coach at UConn create the kind of buzz Addazzio has? Did he do it in August or September? I guess what I’m getting at here is this is not unique to UConn. And lastly, I think we both know conferences don’t choose programs based on the excitement generated by a new coach. The decision wasn’t about football or who the coach was Ken. You probably don’t believe or don’t want to but it’s true. Have a good one Ken. In the meantime, try to get past the past my friend and get behind the program and school if you’re a supporter. What’s done is done.
