Q: You following this Sandusky thing. It’s batspit crazy!!! Multiple coaches showered with kids?  No way JoPa didn’t know.  This is wacho.  Palatine, DC

A: Hey Pal I know you sent this in a few days ago but I wanted to wait until the verdict came before saying anything about it really (we were close) and now that it has come (Jerry Sandusky was found guilty of 45 of the 48 child sexual abuse and or related charges he faced and is looking at a minimum 60 years maximum 442 or something like that?)  I still can only manage to say what I was thinking then: this is terribly sad. So many lives affected; Penn State rocked – and this is not the end of the story. We’ve got a long way to go here. I feel terrible for all the victims but the courage they showed to come forth as adults, some with families now, I think, is quite admirable but… had to be done.  You know, a chill went through me when I saw Sandusky’s wife walk off into the night after leaving the courthouse. Can’t imagine what’s was going/has gone through her mind.

Great answer Dez – hard to be excited about any of this really – I’ve been in court when a wronged party received “justice”. It wasn’t – that’s not the court’s fault – in this case a young life was lost and another was severly and permanently injured – there was no going back or foward for those families no matter the verdict. Same here.

While I’m not surprised that there is so much focus on Joe Pa and on Penn St. I’m flabbergasted that no one seems interested in doing anything about the group actually charged with protecting the public namely the Belefonte Sheriff’s department. They were involved in investigating the report initiated by Paterno and came up with nothing. Not only that there were some very mysterious occurances in that department at the time of that investigation including the suspicious death of a top official. That would seem to be the stone to start turning instead of the one with a dead legend and a universtiy that already fired its President, assistant AD and head football coach.

the fact that he referred to himself as the “tickle monster” ranks up there with one of my all-time favorites, jesus juice

Well said Des. Its a sad, disturbing story and the victims showed great courage to come forward to tell their stories. Penn State officials put the school’s reputation and image ahead of the well being of children. I wonder how those individuals felt hearing the victims stories.

There were so many red flags for so long. If only one person had stood up, who knows how many lives could have been saved. Shame on Penn. State, shame on Joe Pa and his entire coaching staff, shame on anyone who knew. Our duty as humans is to stand between the monster and the child, but the roar of the crowd at Penn. State was louder than the little boy crying for help.
