Mailbag Nov.20: Manuel At Game With Calhoun?

by Categorized: Uncategorized Tagged: , Date:

Q: I was stunned to see Warde Manual sitting next to Jim Calhoun at Sunday’s men’s game with BU.
If he in fact is working to build relationships that might lead to membership in a stronger conference, he should have been at the women’s game with Penn State. Geno has been doing a great job promoting the fact that UConn built the Big East into a power conference for women’s basketball and during the postgame press conference the Penn State coach praised Geno for helping her build her program. It would have been the perfect time for the UConn AD to offer statesman-like comments and gain an ally.
What say you? – Alex, Bluffton, SC

A: Whew. I’m not sure what to say but I’ll try this: the overall health of the athletic program, perception of said program and how that athletic program benefits a conference in terms of TV dollars are probably some of the things conference commissioners look at first when sizing up potential conference teams. I’m not sure where who the athletic director is sitting with ranks.
