Mailbag Sept.26: Here’s To Hoping They Build On Saturday

Q: Well, Dez, at times i feel bad e-mailing you because i can’t make the chat, but I just replayed the chat and see I missed a lot of irrelevant whining, with a few decent questions mixed in. I really don’t know how to feel about Saturday night. On one hand, I’d be less upset about the loss if we’d performed better vs. Towson and Maryland. On the other hand, if Michigan hadn’t made so many early mistakes, I don’t think we would have been able to keep the score so close. But, the mistakes did happen and we capitalized on them. For the third straight game our opponent had better talent in the skills positions – QB, RB and WR. When you combine that with a weak O-line, it seems to spell big trouble every week. I was stunned to see so many Michigan fans smack in the middle of UConn season ticket areas. I expected them in the corners, ends and above, but not in prime seating. Clearly, a lot of sell-outs. But, I was quite pleased the stadium was nearly full by 8 p.m. What scares me now is we’ll be underdogs at home vs. Louisville and Rutgers, and on the road vs. Central Florida, so there’s no margin for error left on the rest of the schedule if we don’t pull an upset in at least one of those three. Here’s hoping they do indeed build on Saturday with a dominant win at Buffalo. Greg B. Colchester
