From the Joe Paterno statue on campus coming down this morning to…

NCAA to announce corrective measures for Penn State Monday.

Will the program be shut down? Think the NCAA will do it? It’s the right move right now.

But Miami gets away? NCAA better give miami a lifetime ban on football. Let wannabe thug U pay like USC and Penn st did.

  2. Lee says:

You’re aboslutely right, Desmond. And you’re right it’s unlikely. Folks are saying it’s unfair to penalize current kids/coaches. The players should be able to transfer in the situation, and residents, alumni, administration, faculty, staff and community have to be forced to stop and reassess their priorities. Priorities that allowed this to happen in the first place.

  3. mikeinmanila says:

Sorry, meant to say if all recommendations are implemented. BTW, I think this will have a greater impact than a short term “death penalty”.

  4. mikeinmanila says:

Best recommendation I’ve seen is to take away bowl and conference title eligibility for 14 years (same time as PSU was first made aware of Sandusky). Allow some time off “for good behavior (e.g., if all Report Recommendations are recommended); but in no case less than 7 years. Allow all current kids to transfer with no wating time and 1 year extra eligibility. This way, PSU is motiviated to aggessively implement recommendations, those with no direct connection with the scandal aren’t directly punished (e.g., current atheletes), and the university can use whatever money generated from football to do some long term good.

So Beaver Stadium will be full this fall. PSU maing money from their football program. No bowls and limited scolarships. NCAA is a joke. A joke. 5 year Death Penalty minimum. This was as much of a university issue than it was a football issue because of the people that knew what was going on and let it continue. A joke. The NCAA is irrelevant after this discrace. Nothing is too harsh for PSU.

  6. freddy says:

Just my opinion but its unfair to punish the current players and coaches. They did nothing wrong. Paterno is dead, sandusky is serving a life sentence, spanier, curley and shultz are gone, penn st will be sued. That’s ok for me.

    • dconner says:

fine but lets not associate the head coach with what happened there. thats unfair Freddy how would you like someone doing that to you? ill bet you wouldnt. If you dont like the guy just say that. its easier than trying to create something you know is unfair and inaccurate as youre typing it. Come on guy. Thanks

  7. Chris says:

I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for the NCAA to do the right thing here. They will probably levy the same punishment that they gave to a certain basketball program that had low APR scores. I have zero confidence in the buffoons at the NCAA. Zero. I’m disgusted by this whole thing.

    • dconner says:

If it doesn’t completely shut down the program for a certain period of time then it will not have done the right thing. In my opinion that is just – and the just – punishment here. That’s not going to happen. Knocking off bowl games and capping out on recruiting is the equivalent of a slap on the wrist I this case. Let all the kids transfer without sitting and shut the program down for, at least, the rest of the decade – at least. Bottom line I’m with you the NCAA won’t make the right decision here. I don’t think it’s capable of making the right decision on anything to which I ask why does the NCAA exist again?

  8. todd b says:

hey DC. how about kicking penn st out of the big 10 and inviting uconn. i know its a stretch but cant we dream.

  9. Jane says:

Monday will be an awful, awful day for all of college football. But what could those fools at Penn State expect? Not only crimes against children, but covering up crimes against children and allowing it all to continue? Too bad Paterno is not still alive to witness this bitter end of all he presided over.

    • dconner says:

Not sure if punishment fits crime if program isn’t shut down

      • Jane says:

Do you think the NCAA will levy all it’s punishments on Monday or will it make additional punishments at a later date?

        • dconner says:

From the NCAA side, yes, I think whatever hammer is going to fall will fall in its entirety on Monday. Will it nail the program the way it should? Probably not Jane

  10. Nick Anthony says:

Chances we can get Malik Golden back?

  11. Freddy says:

Anyone ask pasqualoni about Penn st? He is an alum of the university and played for paterno. His name is tarnished like everyone else’s.

  12. TheJerk says:

Its funny the NCAA uses the word “corrective”… is there truly anything that makes this situation “correct”?
