From Notre Dame vice president and athletic director Jack Swarbrick today regarding the Boston Globe report that stated Notre Dame and UConn had begun preliminary discussions to play a game at Fenway Park in 2014.

I included in our addition last night that the conversations were more frequent before Notre Dame landed a deal with the ACC in which the football team will play five games against ACC schools.

Armed with that, this, from Swarbrick makes sense. The game could happen but for now…

“We have work to do on our future football schedules, given the announcement last week relative to our upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference relationship. However, media reports today that we will play Connecticut in Fenway Park in 2014 are inaccurate”

I just think it is just bunch of medias making up story to see what are these BC’s responses toward seeing Uconn playing at Fenway Park which it is only some blocks away from BC campus!!

Not only would it be an away game, it is close enough that I’m sure there would be a great UConn turnout. The costs of travel to this away game would be much less than if they had to travel to South Bend. It’s got the TV sex appeal that Fenway can bring and it would be on National TV. I think it’s a win-win.

I think ND is afraid UConn might beat them again. Can’t trust anything they say.

  5. TheJerk says:

Dez, was that accurate that UCONN has ZERO OOC games scheduled for 2014?

  6. RST says:

Fenway is smaller than the Rent. Why on earth would UConn want this game if they turned down a “home” game in East Rutherford for which they presumably would keep most of the revenue??

    • Fenway may be smaller, but it would make for a better TV game and thus more revenue from that end. Also, a game at Giants Stadium/Met Life Stadium would not draw the attendance. Surely Notre Dame fans would do their part, but I would not think it would be a sellout nor have the TV appeal that a game at Fenway would.

    • RST says:

And it would be a ND home game at that???? Not just no, HELL NO!!!!

    • UCONNFB says:

ND will not play a game in a venue with this small seating capacity. Ticket revenue is the major driver here. Sure, it would be unique to play a game at Fenway; but it won’t be UCONN vs ND. That game should be scheduled for Patriots Stadium. At Fenway….how about UCONN vs BC? Just askin’……….

It is ashame that it is hard to believe anything the NCAA, Conference Commissioners, or Athletic Directors say these days.
