Goodbye West Virginia. Good money move? Sure but you’ve seen the last of a conference football title for a while and, perhaps, a major bowl game appearance but the school – not so much the players – will have something to show for it in the ol bank account.

Pitt and Syracuse next? The door is open but that fee could be steep right now for two schools.

No surprise. Have to wonder what the heck the league office is doing. The 27 month window was in place to avoid this very scenario. And the league is now settling? What am I missing here? Its time for the football schools to oust Marinatto. The Big 12 was able to run Beebe out of town, and the Big East needs to do the same. We need a guy that’s capable of dealing with the snakes and vultures that exist in powerful positions today.
Don’t worry everyone, Memphis football is coming to save the day.
My guess is that this is a package deal and that the money received will be paid to unloosen a team from their current conference for 12 to replace wvu (think Boise or UCF). I don’t agree with this and would have loved for the BE to make a stand. It also sets the stage or negotiations with Pitt and SU this time next year.
Oliver Luck is a slime ball and got his way. Good luck because in the Big 12 there will always be Texas and Oklahoma. 8-4 and 7-5 WV get ready for those records each year in the Big 12. I guess contracts are not valid anymore in America. It’s a great country we live in. Good lesson for our athletes and students. Get yours any way you can and at any expense.
The heads of all the folks that run the BCS bowls just exploded. They now realize that one of their games will actually have to host one of these remaining 7 BE teams.
Are you kidding me? Did you see this team play in the orange bowl? We are LOADED next year! Did you watch the fiesta bowl in 2008? We rolled “the best team in the country,” Oklahoma. Welcome to Morgantown Big 12!
No big 12 schedule today, and no settlement news. I am not going to pay attention to the news reports coming out of West Virginia any more.
Dez, Are you saying WVU shouldn’t strive to play in a better conference, better competition and improve their program? I would hope UConn would move to take on a challenge instead of staying in the kiddie pool.
Gonna miss the hill billies,they travel well and are rabid fans. Unless they come up with a big name fast this will also hurt season ticket sales. They were one of our home games this season.
Maybe we could play The Turtles twice this year!
hey, courant, you might want to consider changing Dez’s contract. i think if you play him per word he writes, you’d save a ton. he is a man of few words (which isn’t what readers want in a columnist).
What readers want Spanky is creditable information. That is what Dez brings to the table…nothing more nothing less. He is someone that will never sling mud. He’s class all the way and that is why Connecticut and The Courant need him around!
