Just when you didn’t think it could get any worse? The Huskies get their doors blown off and get beat up at Syracuse, 40-10.

Report card will be short and sweet tomorrow. This was a national TV game and UConn spit the bit.

The beating UConn took last night was a failure on every level. As an avid supporter all UConn sports, how can people look at this coaching regime and accept its “going to take some time” (3-5 years)to build a winner. The State of Connecticut had an up and coming football team, fan interest, and a full stadium. What have we got now ? To paraphrase Rod Gilmore’s comment from last night UConn is “the bottom of Division I football”. COACH P MUST GO !

  2. Bill says:

I live in Syracuse but a Uconn grad and season ticket holder at the Rent. I attended the game at the Dome last night and all I can say is “Wow!” That was, by far, the worst I have seen them
Perform in the 5 years I have made the 4 hr trek from upstate NY to CT to watch the Huskies. If this is how it is going to play out, I couldnt imagine spending my time and money on this product. They have worsened since the beginning of the year! Manuel should keep options open or there will be no one in the seats at the Rent. This is the first year I’ve noticed a marked decrease in attendance . By the way. Nice catch on the sideline last night Kevin Nathan!

  3. Jerry says:

UCONN can recruit the same talent that Rutgers & Syracuse is getting. Syracuse outplayed UNCONN from the start last night, and that points to preparation.

Showings, and seasons like this will hurt recruiting, admissions, TV appearances, and season ticket sales.

Although the AD has said PP is not being replaced, it will be re-evaluated at season’s end. If they have more efforts like last night, PP will be gone.

College sports is a business, and UCONN has accepted this fact in how they operate. Yu don’t expect the AD to tell the media that PP is out after the season when there are still gams to be played, do you?

  4. im blue says:

FROM PASQUALONI TO THE SCHOLARSHIP PLAYERS TO THE STAFF,WHAT A WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY.ESPN SHOULD LOSE THEIR LICENSE FOR PUTTING THOSE CLOWNS ON T.V..

  5. Adam says:

This is the absolute low point of UConn football. UConn has dominated Syracuse in its brief FBS history and to put up an “effort” like the one we saw last night is utterly disgusting. It’s not like we played West Virginia last night. We played Syracuse…2-4 Syracuse who was pushed around in spurts by STONY BROOK. Every player, every coach, every administrator and every fan needs to take a good long hard look in the mirror today and ask themselves if they are going to accept this. Judging by last night’s “effort” (or complete lack of), it’s hard to justify this team winning another game this season. I know alot can happen between now and next year, but it’s even hard to imagine the team winning more than one game next year (Towson). Losing to Syracuse is completely unacceptable.

  6. Cheshire Fan says:

This program is falling faster than Felix Baumgartner.
It least he was finished in 5 minutes or so. We have to endure several years of this?

I won’t be attending or watching anymore under the current plan.

    • mikeinmanila says:

Loved the Felix Baumgartner reference…great analogy!

I was strongly in favor of firing DeLeone this year but giving Pasqualoni one more year, but now I’m thinking…why?

Pasqualoni has taken a BCS bowl team and turned it into the worst team in the Big East in less than 2 years! If any of us showed these types of results where we work, we’d be fired pretty fast. Our bosses wouldn’t give us 3 years to “prove ourselves” if the organization we were leading was clearly spiraling downward.

These guys are getting huge paychecks. Where’s the accountability for poor performance/results? I’m talking to you Warde!

  7. ROADRUNNER says:

Edsall got more from his 1,2and 3star players did then these two jamokes

  8. ROADRUNNER says:

Besides empty seats ..it also affects admissions to a school..kids like a university not just for its education it what it offers for student life ..and football $$$ does exactly that..We can thank Coach Calhoun for that and the “from nothing to dynasty” program he built..He and Auriema put UCONN on the National stage and indirectly sold the university to future students…Edsall did all be could and actually ..elevated the program as far as he could, when he left HUSKY nation wanted more and growth to the next level..the came HCPP and his product….it floors me that these so called leaders have nothing of quality and substance to say. They collect fat checks and are clueless ..they are just nod to one another and NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has share with the “share holders” any sort of vision..Herbst once said ” UCONN wants to compete at the highest level of athletics ” …really??? Those are words of a solid politician…

  9. YankeeI says:

Remember, UConn gets only the one, two and sometimes three star players from the recruiting pool. Some kids progress, others either stay the same or fail. This collection of kids cannot be blamed on Edsall. PP has had one and a half recruiting classes and no one HE has brought in has contributed anything. In fact, most of the kids he brought in, I.e. Tebucky Jones, don’t play at all. Can they really be any worse than what he puts on the field now? If so, why are they getting a free education and on the team in the first place?

  10. Jim says:

Have any of you not been listening to what Dez has been reporting to us the past few weeks, the AD is not firing PP so that being said lets focus on other things than. There has to be a reason the AD is standing behind PP and that is basically it in a nutshell. I think the AD needs to come out at some point and explain why is standing behind him but either way we have to move on.

  11. Schmoopie says:

Why is it Des’fault…? Because he tells people whta they may not want to hear?

  12. mikeinmanila says:

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…

13 months and counting to Pasqualoni’s firing (if not sooner)…in the meantime he will continue dismantling the once promising program…when this is all over, his hiring will have set UConn back at least 5 years, maybe a lot more, depending on his replacement

Warde, it’s time to step up and salvage this program before it goes completely down the toilet

  13. HuskyinDarien says:

You know what? Obviusly there are alot of coaching problems—but just as clear to me is that we just don’t have the collective talent. Don’t you wish that every few years we would welcome a diva WR who is a pure playmaker and would have the mental toughness and skill to say (i.e. Key-shawn) “just throw me the @#$* ball!”. We never have that guy.

I always thought the defense was a bit over-rated, especially the secondary. They are good, just not great. When our D faces anything close to a passing attack, they seem to get somewhat exposed.

To TAD—-those Texas high schools just may give us a game right now…

  14. Chuck says:

After last nights game I’m not not sure UConn could give a High School team a good game. Dez, there is only one possible grade this week for the entire team and coach staff…Putrid. As a season ticket holder from the beginning at the Rent, I could not imagine myself being a boo bird or fire the coach advocate, but last nights game completely reversed my thoughts on giving a coach 3-5 yrs to work their magic. This team was totally unprepared to play and that is unforgivable. At the very least the OC has to go …Now. Perhaps give the the HC & DC till this end of this year & even next, but if this deterioration continues, a wholesale change is in order. Richard Burton is looking smarter by the day. As a retiree on fixed income, I can’t continue to waste my income on a team & Coach staff the doesn’t even show up. After last season I didn’t decide until late to give it another year to see some modest improvement. If I had to make my decision today, I would give up my tix in the lower bowl near the 40. This is not competitive football…I don’t know what this is, other than an embarrassment.

  15. husky66 says:

Think our “Michigan Man” AD will have a talk w/ PP about how his FB team embarassed the university on national TV? Or that his OC is gone? or that in Ann Arbor, even Brady Hoke, another Michigan Man, would be run out of town if he were having the same results as we’re seeing at UConn w/ PP in year two?

If Manual were AD at M he would have no choice in the matter. the president of the University and the alumni would compel him to fire PP at the end of the season and would likely be scouring the ranks for likley replacements right now.

Losing is a problem, but if you are getting better, at least something positive could be seen. However, being embarassed three weeks in a row, and clearly moving backwards, that is unaccpetable. losing to Temple, Syracuse?

somehow squeeze three more wins to finish 6-6 and PP probably stays. even if do hit .500, season tix sales will be gone.

    this is so disappointing.

  16. Eric says:

Three weeks ago I said to you that DeLeone should be on the hot seat due to his inability to run the line or offense. Your mocking and terse one word answer of “no” disappointed me. You are knowledgable about the game and I enjoy your articles. I just hope your judgement is not clouded by your past with them in Syracuse. Nice guys don’t always work out and if Coach P doesn’t let him go he has signed his pink slip.

    • dconner says:

You got all of that from a one word answer?

      • TheJerk says:

        “terse” lol

      • Eric says:

I stand by what I say… DeLeone was failing at Syracuse and Coach P lost his job because of it. Now he is going to lose his job at Uconn the same way. By not explaining your answer more then one word you are open to interpretation.

        • dconner says:

It’s amazing you wake up after a loss and your focus is on me. For all this I should put a uniform on. My gosh Eric you’re frustration is aimed in the wrong direction, badgering me about interpretation? You’re upset about the way the team is performing. That has nothing to do with me, what I say or what I think? I refuse to believe you don’t get that. If you want to make this all about the reporter you go right ahead but think about how it looks to others who read it. You’re better than that Eric. I understand you’re frustration. I do but I don’t see the logic in directing it at me. Now, if people don’t want to hear what I have to say, unless its what they want to hear I guess we could do that but shielding reality has never really helped anyone I know

  17. ERIC HARRINGTON says:

I feel the team came out unprepared on both sides of the football yesterday and that is at least partially on the head coach. I hated this hire from the beginning; we need some offensive guru who can make kids want to come play here. I agree with MikeT above. Maybe if Auburn fires Gene Chizik…

  18. RST says:

Refuse to believe that there is not talent on this team. Something is wrong in the teaching department. What is being asked of the players may be too complex for their level of skill/experience. If HCPP wants to stay, I think he is going to need to change both his coordinators (although the need is obviously greater at OC). He needs people that can relate better to this level of talent and adopt the KISS approach (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Agree that two years is too short a time to be thinking of a HC change, but at least the OC has to go at the end of the season.

  19. TAD says:

We could watch the Maryland/North Carolina State game. One team we beat and another we were close to beating. Who knew that those games were going to be the high point of our season. I hear ESPN has decided band Uconn from its future broadcasts. They are going to be replaced with high school games from Texas. Maybe coach P should watch some of those real college football teams play.

  20. bob says:

I had hope for this team at the beginning of the season but this team is HORRIBLE.I didn’t think they would stink up the playing field like this, it’s unbelievable. Each week they talk about making corrections and it seems as if they get get worse. The offensive line might as well sat on the bench for as much as they did. I was having my doubts about the defense but they just confirmed my worst suspicions after this game. This game was so bad I think I should have gone to watch the local midget football game. These coaches have to go

  21. ROADRUNNER says:

Hey TAD ..Today there is some REAL college football to watch..

  22. ROADRUNNER says:

Unimaginable …I can’t wait to hear the BS. ..if anyone thinks that HCPP and his pathetic OC needs time they need their head examined or have it up their a–!!..Give the solid rationale for the reason..if you THINK you can ..your just as bad..what a freakin joke!!

  23. TAD says:

Start the search for a new coach now!!!! The defense didn’t show up and the offenseive line may be the worst in college football. At least after 7 games of teams blizing us crazy Deleone finally called a couple screen passes. This team will not win another game this year.

  24. Jane says:

If the staff is definitely not getting axed, maybe we could have some guest coaching games during the season.

  25. Jim says:

Dez you have stated that the higher up’s have no intentions of getting rid of PP and you have said to some degree you support there stance, after last nite’s game I also support the higher up’s. PP needs 5 years maybe more to undo everything and than put it back together. This guy is a proven winner lets give him more time.

    • TheJerk says:

what was he un-doing? how may coaches un-do things after inheriting a BCS team?!?!

      • Jim says:

Guys lets all calm down and remember that PP is not getting fired,so we have no choice but to support him and his coaches and believe everything we are told by him at his press conference’s. Dez did you see any positive’s the team can build on? PP is going to need more time, maybe 5 years.

    • roberttherugguyraleigh says:

The wheels are off. Mr. Burton loudly quiet. Three wins out of the last four a must.

  26. TheJerk says:

i was close, i called 38-9 and took the over

  27. MikeT says:

I’m generally not one to blame a coach, especially when you need to give him a few years to recruit his own players. That said, it’s starting to look like the program has taken a significant step backwards under PP. If it were up to me, I’d say let’s cut our losses, fire him at the end of the season, and get a young assistant from a major or a head coach from a mid-major.

  28. Anonymous says:

Uconn is never going to be a consistent contender in the Big East. Uconn is a basketball school not a football one. A winning season once in awhile and maybe a bowl game here and there but winning every year is not realistic. Any Uconn fans that think this school is going to become a football powerhouse are delusional. The present coaching staff is not up to the task. How about a younger, more high energy coach instead of the retreads we have now? It’s only going to get worse.

  29. Chris says:

Dez you may be surprised to hear this from me, but fire them now while they have the bye week. Can it get any worse? I’m going on record……

  30. Dave says:

Oh, believe me Dez, it will get worse you have not seen anything yet. @ USF loss, Pitt loss, @ Louisville loss, and Cinn. loss. This team is on a free fall its a good thing we played Buffalo when we did. What a disgrace! 3-9 here we come, 0-7 Big East. But a certain coach saw some good things. Can anybody block, pick up a blitz or tackle someone. Oh wait kicker made a FG & XP. Whoopie…………. ACC do you need a 16th team.
