Former UConn Tight End Ryan Griffin On The (Ellen)Tripp Effect

by Categorized: Uncategorized Tagged: , , , Date:

As I mentioned earlier I’ll be doing a story soon here on Ellen Tripp, interim director for UConn’s academic counseling program working with womens basketball, football the last 11 years and since January, mens basketball.

Word is, she’s outstanding at what she does. Word from those she’s worked with is that she’s outstanding, more to the point she’s tough, doesn’t take any mess,  but she’s very caring and fair.

Here’s what former UConn tight end and 2013 draft hopeful Ryan Griffin said about Tripp today.

“Ellen has been a mainstay of guidance for the entire football team, not only from an academic standpoint but she has also served as a life resource for many of us and for that all of us are grateful for her to be a key stone in the foundation that is the UConn football family,” Griff said.

A Word From Joe (Ryan’s Dad) Griffin

Joe, as you know, is the father of UConn senior tight end Ryan Gtiffin.

He has delighted with his flare for writing what he feels before and he here is again as his son steps on the Rentschler Field turf Saturday for the last time.

Here’s Joe Griffin….

Well, when I step onto Rentschler Field with my wife Pat and hug my son at the Senior Game formalities before tomorrow’s game, it will be with mixed emotions. Relief, Gratefulness,Melancholy, Happiness, Pride, Trepidation, and Sadness all mixed into one.

What’s goin on?

If you get a chance to hit my twitter (@desmondconner) or if it’s running in the blog check the video interview with Julian Campenni, the redshirt freshman and starting defensive tackle next to senior Ryan Wirth for the season opener against UMass. If not, you can read general thoughts from him here now, too

Nice job by Campenni cracking the starting lineup.

The word head coach Paul Pasqualoni and defensive coordinator Don Brown used often to describe the young from West Pittson (Pa) was consistent. Continue reading

UConn Players Thoughts From Big East Media Day

What’s goin on?

Here are some thoughts from the UConn players who accompanied head coach Paul Pasqualoni to Big East Media Day in Newport Tuesday….

The Huskies report to camp Thursday and begin practice Friday..Five days later they’ll be in full pads and begin full preparation for the Aug,30 season opener against UMass and the 2012 season.

As you know the Huskies are coming off a 5-7 campaign in 2011

They were picked sixth in the preseason media poll…

“When we came in,” senior cornerback and 2011 captain Blidi Wreh-Wilson said. “We had about 24, 25 freshmen. Going out this year we have like 16, 17 seniors. That should make a difference but we saw when we got here [as freshmen] we were ranked at the bottom. The Fiesta Bowl year we were ranked at the bottom. Last year, we were ranked at the bottom. This year we’re ranked at the bottom.

“The outside world doesn’t dictate what we do. We realize what our expectations are and how we’re going to carry ourselves and what we’re worried about. If we’re reading what media is saying about us and listening to what the media says about us then we’re not focusing on the things we need to focus on. This summer, through senior leadership and even some of the freshmen who have been stepping up, we decided we’re just not going to pay attention to it.” Continue reading
