UConn Huskies Shine At NFL Combine…

Here’s a look at how they did in the big events.

The cornerbacks worked out today and for UConn that means Dwayne Gratz and Blidi Wreh-Wilson.

Linebacker Sio Moore and defensive end Trevardo Williams put up some serious numbers during their drills on Monday.

More on that in a minute.

Gratz tied for first among corners in the bench press with 22 reps. He also ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash which was 14th best among corners. Gratz was fifth in the vertical jump with a leap of 38 inches. Gratz tied for 12th in the Broad Jump 10 feet, 5 inches.

Wreh-Wilson was fourth in the Broad Jump, 10′ 8″.  The two-time Huskies captain ran a 4.53 40 and had 14 reps on the bench press and got up 36.5″ in the vertical. Continue reading

UConn Athletic Communications – January 23, 2013 – Sio Moore Added To Senior Bowl Roster

STORRS, Conn. — University of Connecticut senior linebacker Sio Moore (Apex, N.C.) has been added to the roster for this Saturday’s Senior Bowl and will now be one of four Huskies in the game. Moore four tackles as he played for the East team in the annual East-West Shrine Game on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Tampa, Fla. The West team won 28-13.
UConn cornerbacks Dwayne Gratz (Piscataway, N.J.) and Blidi Wreh-Wilson (Edinboro, Pa.) and linebacker Trevardo Williams (Bridgeport, Conn.) will also play in the Senior Bowl on January 26 in Mobile, Ala. The Senior Bowl will take place at Ladd-Peebles Stadium at 3:00 pm CT and will be televised live by the NFL Network. Continue reading

UConn LB Sio Moore On Butkus Award Watch List

CHICAGO, Ill. (July 16, 2012) – Redshirt-senior linebacker Sio Moore (Apex, N.C.) was named to the Dick Butkus Award Watch List for the honor given to the nation’s top linebacker by the Butkus Foundation each year.

The Butkus Award, originally awarded through the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, has been given annually since 1985 and in 2008 was taken over by the Butkus family to be used toward charitable cuases, including the “I Play Clean” initiative. Overall, 51 collegiate players are selected for the watch list to honor the jersey number of Dick Butkus.

Moore has started 21 games in a Husky uniform, including all 12 in 2011. He finished third on the squad in tackles with 86, led the team with 16 tackles for a loss and was second with 6.5 sacks. Twice in 2010, Moore was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. He made a career-high 17 tackles in an overtime win over West Virginia on October 20, 2010.

For his career, Moore has registered 202 tackles, eight sacks and four interceptions, three of which came in 2011.
