What’s goin on?

UConn’s first spring practice under new coach Bob Diaco is set to begin March 10 culminating with the annual Blue-White Spring Game April 12 at Rentschler Field.

The game time has yet to be determined but it is expected to be after 12 noon.

I hear UConn is looking to be creative with the game this year, trying to make a splash with it and I also hear the day will be a similar to an actual game day setting, too, but surely, improving the attendance numbers at this game, the experience and getting folks stoked for the 2014 season will be a focus.

Here’s a look at UConn’s 2013 and 2012 attendance numbers at the spring game. The attendance numbers for the 2010 game, a few months before the program reached the BCS as well.

UConn Football: What You Should Know About Today’s 1 P.M. Blue-White Spring Game

by Categorized: Uncategorized Tagged: , Date:

First, not a bad crowd out there.

Second, don’t expect to see any of the Huskies game plan for the 2012, if any, most especially with the game being on TV. Ain’t happening

Expect to see basics and basics only.

The teams have been divided up in quite an interesting way. The focus today is clearly on evaluating individuals. It’s not first offense against first defense. The Blue and White teams are mixed up nicely.

– For example, for the Blue, quarterbacks will be Casey Cochran and Johnny McEntee. The running backs for the Blue? Lyle McCombs and Max DeLorenzo; WRs: Mike Smith, Deshon Foxx and Geremy Davis. Defensively, Sio Moore, Brandon Steg, Marquise Vann and Ryan Donohue.

Michael Nebrich, Chandler Whitmer and Scott McCummings (bad toe) are the quarterbacks for the White. Alex Mateas is the center for the White. I find that interesting cuz I think Mateas is going to be the starting center. Also Kevin Friend and Steve Greene are on the White. Joe Williams and Martin Hyppolite  are the running backs. Shakim Phillips and Nick Williams are the key receivers to watch. Trevardo Williams is at one defensive end for the White while Jesse Joseph is at one spot for the Blue. Jefferson Ashiru, Jory Johnson and Yawin Smallwood are at linebacker for the White. Blidi Wreh-Wilson is at one corner for the White as is Taylor Mack. Dwayne Gratz is at corner for the Blue. Safety Ty-Meer Brown is running with the White. His position mate, Byron Jones, is running with the Blue.

– No DT Julian Campenni (lacerated ear) today

– Committed recruits in the house? E.J. Norris,  a 6-4, 230-pound defensive end from Archbishop Carroll High in D.C.; DT Mikal Myers, (6 foot, 300); C Rennick Bryan (6-2, 319) Hillhouse High in New Haven; Jazzmar Clax (5-11, 236) from Neptune, NJ; FS Obi Melifonwu (6-3, 194), Grafton, Mass; DE Brendan Battles-Santos (6-3, 250), Eastham, Mass; LB Jon Hicks (6-3, 245) Palmyra, PA., FS Ellis Marder (6-1, 185), Windermere, Fla.; FB Wyatt Vinci (6-3, 238), Ridgewood, N.J.
