Weren’t we just led to believe – especially after the big TV deal the ACC just got – that everybody in that conference was happy?

Well, sort of, and the Florida State bolting rumors quieted down.

They’ve heated back up again in a big way.

Check out this report from Yahoo! Sports’ Dan Wetzel. More importantly, check out the quote FSU Board of Trustee chair Andy Haggard gave to Warchant.com which is included in Wetzel’s piece

  1. edward reynolds says:

What you don’t understand about the ACC, it’s all about UNC. Have you heard from boston College since it bolted, the same will happen to Pitt and ‘Cuse. Georga tech is another school
that would love to get out of that conference.

  2. jack54 says:

Pitt going to the ACC messed things up. If they had waited they could have joined the Big 12 with rival West Virginia and Louisvile giving the league 12 teams. Uconn should have been ACC #14. Then ND and Rutgers as a pair could decide between ACC =16 or Big 12 = 14.

    • UCFBfan says:

Don’t be shocked if Pitt pulls a TCU and goes to the Big 12 before playing a game in the ACC….it could happen if FSU doesn’t join and the Big-12 really wants 12…..

  3. Dave says:

There is no chance a SEC school would leave their conference. To go to the ACC, what’s TZToronto smoking.

  4. TZToronto says:

This whole thing is getting crazy. Everyone wants the football money, and everyone wants ND. ND wants its own deal and can get it, even though they haven’t done a whole lot in recent years. (You’d think Knute Rockne was still coaching!) So unless something drastic happens–like NBC dumps ND–don’t expect ND to join any conference for FB. If any ACC school should be dumped from FB, it’s Duke. IF FSU leaves for the Big 12, that also takes away a BB school (one which often beats Duke), so the ACC will need to add another school, one that does well in both BB and FB. Is there a school to replace FSU? Sure, but it will have to come from another conference (obviously), and which school would that be? UConn or Rutgers, perhaps, but maybe a school from the SEC, and that would result in more shuffling for the same reasons. I think the only scenario that makes sense is for the Big East to split into two conferences, one that is mainly basketball and a second that is FB-driven. The FB conference might actually be able to attract a decent FB school or two while retaining the high profile in hoops–but only if the FB conference is BCS-eligible.

To be clear you think it’s a possibility that a current SEC team could be an option for the ACC? Wanna make sure I read that right, thanks.

      • Sillyboy says:

Exactly Dez—-No SEC school would ever leave the most tradition-riched, stable, and most importantly—lucrative, athletic conference in the country unless they were kicked out…

    • roberttherugguyraleigh says:

Beware the Blue Devils this year on the gridiron, no joke.

  5. Steve B. says:

Boy if FSU bounces that stinks for us. Say they go then I’d wager Clemson and VT could try making a move (SEC was looking at them before). So say those schools go and we get into the ACC. Then it’s just a glorified bball league just like where we are now. We really are in a no win situation if further changes to conferences keep happening.

  6. Eric says:

I say I hope the ACC gets poached… I feel it is the only way we can get in at this point. Are market otherwise is not bog enough even though we have a presence in NYC. Rutgers though sucky in everything else has great academics and can be the whipping boy in the ACC to pad everyone elses resume.

    • dconner says:

UConn would go to ACC before Rutgers. They’d want a team competitive in big three major sports not a doormat. UConn has NCs in men’s and women’s basketball and has also been to BCS in football.

  7. Navin R. Johnson says:

I take offense to both of these posts. DC your the best and we have to hit the races this year.

  8. TheJerk says:

wow someone hit the jack and cokes early today, eh Robert? Got as much chance of that as Navin losing 50lbs. On the other hand why couldnt the big east try to lure teams (BYU, ND, FSU etc,) with the montra of “we dont care what you do for your own TV deals”?

    • dconner says:

That’s the main reason the BE don’t have BYU now but I don’t think the rest of the league would see that as fair. They don’t get any of NDs money from
      NBC but…. That’s ND

      • TheJerk says:

So you are trying to tell me BYU didnt come to the BE becuase is about 75lbs overwieght?

  9. roberttherugguyraleigh says:

Well ok, the Big East will take Florida State, and Notre Dame, which will keep Boise State, which would give the Big East a chance to redo their own TV deal. A coast to coast league with 3 or 4 Top 25 football teams every year is what Big East football can dream of, if only for a few months.
